  1. Kennet & Avon Canal - Thatcham 0700 - 0930 Cool, calm and overcast - with 'milky' sunshine breaking through for last hour. 4ºC. WT a more promising 46ºF, little colour and quite a bit of flow. 2 Perch; 2lb 5oz & a tiddler. A struggle for bites in seemingly perfect conditions for stripeys - though in retrospect a dusk session may have been better. Both fish fell after 0830 when it was brighter with sun on the water.
  2. Kennet & Avon Canal - Thatcham 0700 - 1100 Overcast, mild and drizzly. AT 57ºF. WT 52ºF 4 Perch: 3lb 5oz, 2lb 13oz, 2lb 5oz and a tiddler. All fish in first couple of hours (3lber first cast!). Spent last hour exploring so probably did more walking than fishing.....Float fished lobs as per usual.
  3. Kennet & Avon Canal - Thatcham 1300 - 1800 Drizzly start becoming bright and sunny - mild 16ºC. 9 Perch; 3lb 12oz, 1lb 11oz & 7 tiddlers, 1 chublet. Planned to go in the morning but the wimped out because of the promised downpour which never really arrived. Should have stuck to my guns as the barge traffic was a nightmare. Biggy early in the session - but after that there was far too much boat traffic for the swim to 'settle' down - poo!
  4. Kennet & Avon Canal, Thatcham 0700 - 1130 Cool and overcast start becoming bright and sunny. AT 5º - 8ºC 8 Perch:3lb 14oz(Another new PB ), 2lb 6oz, 2lb 3oz, 2lb 2oz, 1lb 15oz. 1lb 14oz, 1lb 10oz (& a tiddler), 2 Chub, 1½lb & a chublet. A strange session (!!) Both chub in the 1st couple of minutes then no bites for over an hour. Swim woke up at around 0830 after a couple of barges came through (Often the opposite happens). And I had slow but steady sport catching the ± 2lbers. Bites stopped by 1015 with the swim now in full sun so went exploring new swims for future trips. Did a bit of 'gardening' to create a swim to get access to a fallen tree on the other bank - and had a couple of casts before I left. Never expected a fish given the commotion and bright sunshine. Had the tiddler 1st cast and the biggie shortly after! A swim that I will return to!
  5. Kennet & Avon Canal - Thatcham 0645 - 0900 Cloudless sky - so bright sunshine by 0800. 11ºC 6 Perch: 3lb 11oz (New PB) , 3lb 3oz, 2lb 6oz, 2lb 2oz, 1lb 13oz and a tiddler, 2 Chub 1lb 10oz and a chublet, 1 very small Pike. After a great start on the river last weekend - and even better start on the canal!!!. Both 3lbers in first 45 minutes of fishing - the 3-11 was first perch of the session. A really chunky fish - as fat as a football! All fish caught on float fished lobs.
  6. Kennet & Avon Canal - Thatcham 0630 - 0900 Dull, overcast and mild. AT & WT 47ºF. Water quite clear. 4 Perch: (2lb 14oz, 2lb 6oz, 1lb 11oz & a tiddler), 2 Chub: 2lb 10oz & 1lb 14oz, 1 Pike 3lb. Perfect perch dawn - so somewhat surprised to find some chub taking up residence in my favourite perch swim. They were the first two fish I caught. Lost another at the net and then caught the pike so moved swims to (succesfully) find some perch! All fish on float fished lobs.
  7. Kennet & Avon Canal - Thatcham 1500 - 1715 Cool with hazy sunshine. AT & WT both 43ºC. Water levels up with some colour. 1 Perch - 1lb 13oz. So nearly a blank! Solitary bite at the 'death' - and even then I nearly lost it as it was grabbed by a jack - briefly - as it was landed.
  8. Kennet & Avon Canal - Thatcham 1315 - 1715 Cold & sunny - AT 5ºC (± 1ºC!) Water quite coloured - and this section of canal around 10-12 inches lower than last visit in December. WT 42ºF. 2 Perch - 3lb 5oz, 2lb 8oz. 1 Chublet Biggest perch at 1530 - just as the sun left the water. 2lber last cast in the gloom. Both on lobs. Biggest perch of the season so far.
  9. Kennet & Avon Canal - Thatcham 1400 - 1615 Dull, overcast and calm. AT 7ºC. WT 50ºF 7 Perch - in order of capture... 3lb 1oz, 2lb 13oz, 2lb2oz, 2lb 9oz, 2lb 13oz, 2lb 14oz, 2lb 10oz. Opportunistic trip - as was unexpectedly allowed home early for Christmas! Float fished lobs. Last 4 fish caught in the last 20mins. Early Christmas prezzie!
  10. Kennet & Avon Canal - Nr Thatcham 1400 - 1615 Cold and clear. AT 7ºC -> 3ºC. WT 42ºF - canal carrying a little colour. 2 Perch - a fine brace - 3lb2oz & 2lb 9oz. 1 Pike, 8lb 6oz. A succesful dusk trip for stripeys - despite the cold bright conditions. Pike 1st cast (yet another worm caught pike) and biggest perch on the stroke of 4pm just as the light was fading fast.
  11. Kennet & Avon Canal - nr Thatcham 1400 - 1630 Overcast, mild with and upstream breeze.AT 13ºC. WT 51ºF. Water quite clear. 5 Perch (3lb 2oz, 2lb 6oz, 2lb 5oz, 2lb 3oz, 1lb14oz) 1 Pike (4¼lb), 1 Chub (c1lb) Couldn't pass up such perfect conditions for perching! All fish on float fished lobs and all caught after 1530 - a manic last hour of daylight!
  12. Kennet & Avon Canal - Thatcham 0715 - 1030 Clear and frosty - hazy sunshine. 0º -> 10ºC 2 Perch (1lb 15oz, 1lb 1oz) An exploratory wander up and down the canal - in sub-optimal conditions for perch. No bites in first 1½hrs - quite a bit of boat traffic too! Both fish on lobs.
  13. Kennet & Avon Canal - Thatcham 0600 - 0900 Mild, Overcast/milky sunshine. Canal carrying some colourand quite full - forgot thermometer so no readings! 5 Perch: 2lb 12oz, 2lb 2oz, 2X'pounders' and a tiddler. Crack of dawn session - though could have had an extra hour in bed as no bites until 0700. Unusually fish got bigger the brighter it got - biggest was last one banked. Barge coming through the swim at 0830 killed sport! Used Anglersnet Centre Pin for the first time - well impressed!
  14. Kennet & Avon Canal - Thatcham 0730 - 0930 Mild and drizzly 12ºC. Travelling light so water thermometer in other bag. (But WT must be well up). Canal bank high and quite coloured. 6 Perch (2lb 5oz, 2lb 2oz, 1lb10oz, 1¼lb X2 & a tiddler), 1 Tench (!) 2lb 2oz, 1 Roach (15oz) - greedy sod took a whole lob on a size 8, 2 chub both <1lb. Surprisingly pleasurable morning given the conditions - thankfully wind wasn't too bad - though fished less exposed stretch. First ever January Tench - WT must be up!
  15. Kennet & Avon Canal - Thatcham 0745 - 1015 Cool, cloudy and calm. AT 41ºF -> 47.5ºF. WT 44ºF 7 Perch - 2lb 15oz, 2lb 3oz, 2lb, 1lb 8oz, 3<1lb. Dawn raid on a perfect perch morning. 6 fish in the first hour - only 1 bite after 0900! All fish to float fished lobs.
  16. K&A Canal - Thatcham 0715 - 0845 Bright and breezy - after heavy overnight rain (¾in fell yesterday). AT 46ºF. WT 48.5ºF 7 Perch (5 over lb - 3lb 3oz, 2lb 5oz, 1lb13oz, 1½lb, 1¼lb) 1 chublet Short session - as only had about 45 mins of 'good light' - good for perch that is - bites dried up when it got too bright. Water carrying a tinge of colour which would have helped too. All fish on lobs.
  17. K&A Canal @ Enbourne/Speen Moors 0700 - 1130 Bright and breezy - clouding over. WT 48ºF. low and gin clear. 1 chub (1½lb), 1 perch (scraper lber), a dozen dace, ½doz each of chublets, roach, gudgeon and small perch, 1 B. Trout. 1st hour on the canal then switched to the river. Stiff downstream breeze made bait presentation a nightmare - managed 3 perch before moving. Fished mainly on PD - some lovely dace showing had 5 around the 8oz mark - a couple of roach of similar size. Paul bagged loads of silvers too plus a chub of 4lb 9oz.
  18. 0700 - 0900 K&A Canal - Widmead 4 perch( 1lb 11oz, 1lb 9oz, 2<1lb) 0930 - 1230 Warwicks Water 1 bream (1½lb), 2 doz roach & perch. Calm, high cloud, dry. 8º -> 16º. WT 14ºC This was meant to be a perching session but the crayfish on the canal were a nightmare. If the perch didn't take the lobworm on the drop the signals were on the bait within a minute (I timed!!). Switched to Warwicks hoping for a late crucian but none were showing. Fished meat and pellet without a bite - all fish to single red maggot. Bream is the 1st I've ever had from this water though!
