Tagging Carp

Have there been any instances that you know of when carp have been 'tagged' before release? Whenever I have gone 'big game' fishing in Africa, all fish are tagged before release. This may be useful on very big waters to see where the carp go at certain times if you read the tag that has been attached previously. Just an idea, shall I go get my rivet gun now? :D Only kidding. It can be done I think without no harm to the fish whatsoever, <he says>.

Neal,

In many respects that's not an ideal situation. Most people would rather catch an unknown fish than a known fish and so from that point of view it would be dissapointing to catch a tagged fish.

From the perspective of fish thefts though tagging is altogether more attractive. Fish can be tagged (in the same way pets are now) with a microchip and stolen fish can then be identified more easily. It does however rely on a large uptake and people being caught red handed with stolen fish. At the moment it's only being muted as an option, but in the future who knows.

If I started catching carp that were tagged, it would be the last time I would fish there. They'll be bar coding them next.

English as tuppence, changing yet changeless as canal water, nestling in green nowhere, armoured and effete, bold flag-bearer, lotus-fed Miss Havishambling, opsimath and eremite, feudal, still reactionary, Rawlinson End.
