Carp angling match

Alright Lads.

I've been living in Ireland for the last eight years or so and have kind of lost touch with the scene (carp and otherwise) back in the uk, imagine my suprise when I flick to sky sports and see Rob whatsisnames ugly mug staring back at me!

I'd never envisaged something like that happening within carp angling circles. Don't get me wrong, I had the mags sent over to me for a while but you kind of lose interest when what your reading doesnt really apply to you. Anyway, if i'm honest I was appaled at first, I couldnt understand how carp fishing could possibly be done on a match basis without losing it's appeal, then I thought about it. Funnily enough the more I thought about it the more it did appeal to me, hence the post.

I'm not sure how good a partner I'd make, I've never really fished the circuit waters in the UK (not since I did it badly as a lad anyway) the lakes I fish in Ireland can be hard in their own way but are deffinately very, very different to the lakes I've fished in France, and i'm sure for that matter the UK as well.

You may have noticed that I posted on this forum (and others) looking for info on possible venues availiable to purchase recently. Well, i seem to have come to the end of my quest (i've been looking for quite a while now) and am very close to concluding a deal, watch this space.

Point is, I'll be living in the UK again within the next few months and am keen to let the world now what a good fisherman I've become, only joking, but I'd love to have a crack at one of these events and would appreciate any info on the process. Oh yeah and i'll be needing a partner as well (for the fishing dumbass)so if anyones interested I'd love to hear from you(that sounds even worse dunnit)

P.S. if your wondering why I used so many brackets () I,m just practicing putting them up. Every trophy needs a shelf

Best thing is to keep looking in Carpworld/Carptalk. The publishers have quite a long association with all of the match organisers and always give good notice of eliminators etc.

You're right, Carp matches can be good fun. Usually, they're quite light hearted affairs, despite the large sums of money on offer as prize money. The sponsors, usually pull out all the stops with tackle prizes as well, so you stand a very good chance of picking something up in a raffle or something.

Unless you get sponsorship from a company, be prepared to spend a bit of dough on bait. You don't have to go too mad for the qualifiers, but if you get to a final, you could be fishing a HUGE water (1/2 mile between swims or sections). You may need a fair amount of bait to hold the fish in your swim.

Try and get in a heat on a water you know, or you know can be prolific. That way, the contest will be more open and you may not have to rely on the draw.
