One Eyed Carp

Are these fish rare or do they crop up all around the country. My other half, Lynette, had a double figure carp from Durleigh Res. in Somerset where one of the eyes had never even formed , just an eye socket covered in skin.

 

Why would this happen?

When I once reared some carp fry from spawn in a tank, I inadvertantly introduced some argulus with the daphnia. They killed many of the fry very quickly, and left several of them with one eye, after they just clamped onto the head and started feeding on them.

One of the fish that I stocked into Wingham had only one eye. It doesn't seem to have adversely affected it as it went from 8½lbs in April 1995 to over 30lbs in May 2001 - when it was still only 9 years old!

Interestingly, the carp in the picture knew exactly where the weed beds were and swung around in a circle to the right and headed straight for them. Even when it was played back into open water, it still went back to the right - radar? :confused:
