I never replace my rods until they break.Every year I will buy one new rod and reel. I fish the mississippi river, and the rock river. The red horse carp and the common carp get around 50 lbs to 90lbs. That is the bigest. Most pople just catch 10 to 30 lbs carp.

What do you mean by 'Redhorse' carp? There is no such thing, unless of course you mean the Redhorse Sucker which does not grow very big. Do you mean the the Buffalo Carp (Black, Smallmouth, and Largemoouth species)? The three buffalo species are the only 'carp' (other than possibly a monster-sized Cyprinus carpio!) capable of reaching 90lb in USA.

I have fished in Mississippi and caught Golden Redhorse and Silver Redhorse (I think there is another Redhorse, as well ), these were referred to as "carp" by my friends.

The "Buffalos" were also called "carp".

I can,t comment on their growth potential, but I did here stories. :)

To keep with the topic, I should mention that I replace my rods when they break, but I do add to my collection frequently and "retire" rods occasionally. :)
