Desford Sea Angling Society's Success Story

Desford Sea Angling Society’s fishing skills have finally come true. The crews of the Desford SAS have partaken in Whitby’s Summer Boat Fishing Festival, with Skipper Paul Eddon, for many a year.

Pauls boats The Heather of Burnham and now Trot-On have gave us many a happy hour fishing the North Sea off the Yorkshire coast. Never have we been disappointed with our catches. Many a crew members PBs have been hauled onboard Paul’s boats.

This year 2009, on the sixth day of the Summer Festival, Desford SAS’s member, Cliff Moulds brought onboard a 14-11.5lb Cod, a PB. This gave him third place, for the day, which was the best any Desford SAS member had ever achieved.

When the Festival ended and results published, Cliff discovered he had caught the biggest Cod of the 2009 Summer Festivals competition.

Prizes Cliff was to receive were totally unexpected, a plaque/trophy presented by the RNLI, now hanging in the Whitby RNLI boat house, for all to see with his name on it. (Cliff is the first to be honoured with this prize)

Cliff was unfortunate not to be able to make the presentation, but Skipper Paul did the Desford SAS proud by accepting the plaque/trophy on his behalf.

Cliff also received a cheque for £50, a couple of Trophies and an ugly stik 15/30 class7/6 f. boat rod. These on top of his passion for sea fishing have made him a very happy angler.

We at the Desford Sea Angling Society would like to take this opportunity to THANK Skipper Paul Eddon and all the other Charter Boat skippers for giving us the opportunity to fish the North Sea from their boats.

The boat festivals have given us mere mortals the chance to bring home some very good fish, but also add a friendly competition that we will all talk about for years to come.

On behalf of the Desford SAS, I’d like to say good luck to all that take part in any future Whitby Boat Fishing Festivals.

KEEP YOUR ROD UP.

Hi Elton, no another John, also a member of the Desford SAS, was to talk to Keith. Unfortunately I missed it as I was still in dream land catching Big Bass. :)
