Bread punch

Only ever used this bait on the whip on canals before, is it effective throughout winter as a big and small fish bait?

Say on the quivertip, a piece of breadpunch, can you hook it like when you fish on the pole or does it have to be hair rigged?

Anyone had nice carp or bream in winter on ledgered bread punch???

Any info please

As famous fisherman John Gierach once said "I used to like fishing because I thought it had some larger significance. Now I like fishing because it's the one thing I can think of that probably doesn't."

You need very fresh bread and its best steam it before you pack it in an airtight bag. This makes it 'tacky' and stays together better on the cast. You can also double or triple punch it before setting on the hook to make a more solid disc. This is excellent for river durability especially.

Never tried hair-rigging punch.

Never had a Carp on it but only really fish the Broads. Had some nice Bream out on it this year already and some beautiful Roach and Rudd too, all on the 'tip. I expect it to become ever more effective this winter from past experience.

Hey mate. I have recently been using both floating bread flake and bread punch on a float rig and they have proved very successful methods.

The bread punch has had me some really nice sized Roach, and a fair few Carp/Ide have seemed interested in the bread flake in particular.

Although I have not used it on ledger as of yet, I would imagine you would get some fantastic results on it.

From experience I find ''Roberts Bakery - Medium Sliced Bread'' (Red pack) to be the most effective. If you get it when its fresh in its extremely dough like when compressed and therefore stays on the hook really well.

Bread punch fished over liquidised bread is arguably the top winter canal bait.

I agree. So many people think of bread as ''Old Fashioned'' or ''Out-dated'' when in fact is is probably one of the most successful baits in history!

I certainly use bread in many forms quite a lot.

But not just your old packet white sliced, but things like

Irish Soda Bread

Granary Bread

Wholemeal Bread

French Stick - garlic - cheese - baguettes

Greek Pitta Bread

Sourdough Bread

Malt Loaf

Fruit Loaf

Rye Bread

Garlic Ciabatta

But one bread has for me stood out above all others and that is traditional white crusty British bread, baked in a flame fired oven.
