This morning my partner suggested going for a walk in the park to enjoy the snow and grabbed a bag of bread to feed the birds. She lives next to vicky park and all we have to do is open the garden gate cross the road and there is a small gate in to the park all of about 6 yards away.

 

I knew there was a lake in the park that allows fishing but its the other side of the park and have never bothered to head over to it but had heard it had big Carp in it but could never see myself going Carping in a Park. So when we entered the park I assumed we would be heading over to this lake but my partner started heading over to a stand of trees over near the gate. There was another lake I did not even know existed all of about 100 yards away from my girlfriends place and it was all layed out with swims and looked quiet nice and quick look at a sign near by confirmed fishing is allowed.

 

So a fishing lake 100 yards away :D:clap2:

 

After feeding the birds we decided to head over to the other lake much further away, but we decided to walk around the edge of the park and low and behold there was a canal on the boundary of the park turns out its the Hertford Union Canal and another park boundary has the Regents canal running along it's side.

 

So I have plenty of potential fishing spots within a short walk and so can see myself fitting in a few small sessions in the new year. I think I may need to get a British Waterways ticket to explore the canals. But even if the fishing does not to turn out to be great, it will be nice to be able to pop out for an hour or two during the week.

 

So I have been doing a bit of searching the web for information on the fishing potential but have not come up with much, but my girlfriend has just returned from dropping presents off to a neighbour and he confirms he has caught Roach, Tench, Perch and Rudd from the lake 100 yards away and seen big Carp come out of the other lake.

 

So I think I will be adding doing a bit of urban fishing to the long list of things to do in the new year. Doubt I will be sitting it out for Carp on the big lake but do fancy float or feeder fishing on the near lake and the idea of a wonder with a lure rod on the canals to see if they have Pike and Perch does appeal.

 

It's amazing what can go unnoticed right under your nose.

i know the lake you are talking about as i work in tower hamlets and used to be based next to vicky park in Bethnal Green. i always intended to fish it and asked around, apparently it used to hold tench perch rudd and roach, but we are talking about 10 years ago. i did often have after work sessions in the regents canal where i caught eels, roach, bream and perch. A couple of years later my boss was mugged walking along the canal so i stopped fishing it. the big lake only really had carp in it as the cormorants had all the silvers. they may know more in the tackle shop in roman road.

Sorry to hear about your boss, that's the sort of thing that has put me off before about urban fishing and a reason I have not gone off and explored the numerous canal sections in this part of London. The sections around the park do seem very busy but I guess you have to be mindful of potential situations. I doubt I will give the carp fishing ago as don't like the idea of being out with expensive rods, reels and alarms but giving the small lake with an old rod and few bits of tackle may be worth ago and its just to nearby to not to give it ago.

 

Over the next few weeks I may take a walk from time to time around the canal sections and see if any one fishes it and see how dodgy it looks, plus may take a trip to Roman Road tackle shop to see if they have some info. Never been in it yet but my girlfriend has been in it a few times and has said they were quiet helpful.

I guess it would be worth a go particularly in the summer when there are lots of people around but I would be wary being there early morning or late evening. its a shame really, back in the late 90's the regents canal held matches with lots of people as far as the eye could see. LAA used to have bailiffs that would come along and collect day ticket money . I have seen anglers on the big lake last year going for carp. As long as you are careful I guess you should be fine. Let us know how you get on I would be really interested.

Good advice, the plan is really for the warmer months when the area is busy.
