(Edit note from Newt - as was properly pointed out to me after I posted this, monofilament line is simply a line consisting of a single, extruded strand and as such, fluorocarbon does qualify. So, when you see mono below, read "conventional nylon monofilament")

DG - re fluorocarbon lines: low stretch (5% compared to 15-25% for mono), heavy (will sink readily), low-vis, very UV resistant (so time in sunlight won't degrade it).

If you need any or all of the above features, a good fluoro line is well worth the money. If not, it certainly isn't.

Since a good fluoro line will last and be good to fish with for a great deal longer than a mono, the price actually works out about the same or cheaper if you fish a lot.

Newt,

When you say

"" ....a good fluorocarbon line will last and be good to fish with for a great deal longer than a mono, the price actually works out about the same or cheaper if you fish a lot.""

I guess you really mean " longer than a nylon or other mono" because of course fluorocarbon is also a mono(filament) :)

Thanks DG. I had missed your clarification somehow.
