braid for feeder fishing?

I have just started using braid when feeder for these shy biting winter fish my problem I keep snapping the hook length on the take which is really frustrating. I have scaled down my tackle to 2LB bottom to get takes and use stronger hook lengths I don’t get any bites. I have seen something called power gum but never used it anybody used this? I have tied a length of mono from the braid to the swivel about 8 feet long to try and cushion the strike but does seem to help as I said I have just started using braid is this a problem you can over come with a bit of practice or product?

My guess is that your striking as you would do if using mono. Dont strike just tighten up, a bit of practice may be needed.
