Hi all, ive been fishing for years but never Carp fished. Ive always been into my Bream fishing but this year im going to give Carping ago. Ive just invested in some tackle, 2 rods, 2 reels, 2 bite alarms, bobbins etc. My question is what line do i need for my reels ? For Bream fishing it's a standard 4 to 6lb line but i really don't have a clue for Carp fishing. I will be fishing a lake which has Carp running to 30lb and will be using a 2.75lb test curve rod.

Any response would be much appreciated.

P.S It's an expensive hobby this Carp fishing !

12lb Daiwa Sensor! Seriously. Dont argue, just do it haha. You can get caught up in all this line business. Ask around and the vast majority will recommend Sensor. Its like a fiver a spool and its **** hot.

Guys, back me up! :D:P

Gotcha back bud. For your mainline you really can't beat Sensor imho. Worry about the fancy techy stuff for your hooklength only.

been using this Ultima Pure Power Fluorocarbon Line

for about 3 months now spooled up with 16 lb for France big fish there

over here i use 12 lb not cheap but good casting to over 140 metres with a 3oz lead

and it sinks pretty fast unlike most of the mono lines .

Ok so im abit confussed.

If i was to use a 12lb line what weight of fish would i expect to catch before snapping ?

now that depends on your skill as an angler and other factors like how the fish behaves when hooked/snags etc

i know of fish up-to 40lb landed on 12lb mainline

for the vast majority of fish ur likely to fight in the UK, 12lb will do all day. For the bigger stuff, as long as you know how to play a fish properly the 12lb will still do. It also depends on having a decent carp rod and reel.
