Roach and Rudd

Recommended Posts

I mainly fish for Carp and Pike but have recently joined a club that runs a 6 acre lake with loads of Roach, Rudd and Perch. I would like to give this a try and was wondering if anyone could give me some pointers for these speies in this cold weather.

Cheers

If you own a pole and it is freezing find a deep swim with the wind to your back.

If the temp is above 4 degrees find a swim that is somewhere around 6-8feet deep.

If it is a really mild spell find shallower water.

With the wind in your face.

Put in a pot of chopped worm or chopped worm and caster and fish single maggot, single or double pinkie or a bit of worm on a size 20 hook. Try caster for bigger fish once you get the smaller fish going. Fish about 2 inches over depth to start. You should get a few bites within 20 mins or so. If not try a lighter hooklenght ans smaller hook. I have caught loads of Rudd, Roach, Perch, a few Chub and a Tench using this method with the temp at 0 to -1 and a wind chill 0f -5.

I have also caught all of these using a small feeder.

Rudd,

Thanks for for your input!!! I dont have a pole, I have a 13 ft cheap float rod. When you say "Put in a pot of chopped worm or chopped worm and caster", do you mean ground bait around the hook bait, if so what sort of size pot? I have been using 5lb ine with 4lb Flouro carbon hooklength with size 16 hook. I think I might get some size 20 hooks to nylon. Do you think i should get some new line, if so what would you recomend. Once again, thanks for your help.

Cheers
