can anyone explain the difference between a match

rod and a trotting rod. Is it the weight difference, or the length or tc or what. ??????

There's a certain amount of overlap, and also different suppliers will class their rods slightly differently so there is no industry standard. However trotting rods tend to be somewhat more powerful and slightly more of a through action than a standard match rod. This is especially so for those designed for barbel.

 

I find it very frustrating that many suppliers rave on about the fittings, but often don't mention anything about the power of the rod and even less about the action. Sometimes the catalogues don't even tell you how many sections there are! :mad:

 

However, a few manufacturers, including my own when I was in the tackle trade, try to be more helpful and list all the important points and also suggest the breaking strain of line recommended etc. I always have more confidence in their products as a result.
