Winter stick float shotting patterns

sluk

Recommended Posts

Hopefully getting a stick session on the go tomorrow. Ill be using a balsa which takes 3 x no.4s. What are your recommendations for the shotting patterns at this time of the year. Ive only stick floated a few times before and thats always been in the summer.

Tips as ever would be hugely appreciated :D

Hi dave,

When I went fishing over the Xmas period with Leon, the majority of the shot was bulked around 6" from the hook. Even like that, I suspect the flow didn't take the bait down instantly as we were getting roach bites on the drop.

This is a signature, there are many signatures like it but this one is mine

I don't know the river at all, but dependant upon the flow and where in the water column your looking, I would suspect so.

Pity I'm working, or I'd be with you like a shot!

Probably get shot down in flames - but nearly always my floats are avons ( sometimes chubbers )bulk shotted about 8 - 10" from the hooks. typically 5BB's plus.

Change the hooklength set up to suit bait / species.

I can honestly say I don't fish stick floats / shirt button patterns etc. - but still get my share.

As above Dave, its trial and error till you find the perfect pattern for the particular day you"re fishing on.

"Dont **** in the pool, and then tell me you"ve swallowed some water".
