fishery management

hi dont know if im posting this in the right place, but i thought it was worth a shot.

 

members of my family is interested in buying a property in france. we have looked at one and it has a very large pond 1.5 - 2 acre approx (more like a lake than pond ) and we have been told that it has large carp in there. It is fished by the local farmer.

 

Now i am interested in learning about keeping a pond. water canditions,slits,etc,etc, but there is no local college that does any courses, and being a full time mother would find it very hard to travel to a place that does. Is there any info or books that someone could recommend.

Have you tried a search engine on the net ? Just type in "Fishkeeping" or "Ponds" and away you go !

 

How about the Open University ? They may do courses that might do the trick.

 

Do you have MSN on your computor ? If you get into thier chatlines, I know that there are quite a few sites to do with ponds and fish. These places are full of people who have had ponds for years, and they are only too happy to share their knowledge.

As I recall Rodbaston College do fisheries courses (I seem to recall that Bruno Broughton has something to do with them). Not sure if they do postal courses but may be worth a look.

 

Failing that there's always the Institute Of Fisheries Management. They definitely do training courses and sell all sorts of guides and booklets.

 

And if all else fails ring up your local Environment Agency fisheries office and ask them - they'll probably be able to suggest something.
