The other thing that gets my gander up is those adverts where they stop 'people' in the street and ask them if they've tried the 'latest' product. "Have you tried this, sir?", "Madam, would you like to try one of our.....etc, etc". These so called 'people off the streets' are so obviously fully paid up members of Equity. Do these ad-men (or women) think we are half-wits or something? Is this supposed to get us racing up the local shops, just because Mrs 'So-and-so from RADA' buys it every week?

Must go, I've just seen a red phone on wheels and thrown the remote at the telly.

Advertising is a very suptle art form with most looking very long term. 20 years is not an uncommon concept and is aimed at establishing familiarity with the children of today. Its a similar principle to what your brought up with becomes the norm.

To many the idea of buying ready chopped up vegtables for a salad in a supermarket for a quid a bag is ludicrous, when ten times the actual product can be usualy bought 5 times cheaper. Ask anyone under 30 which they buy.

I hate any American made adverts even more than the British ones. They seem to assume American TV viewers are brainwashed cretins. Even worse than those though, are the crass, unbearable (and almost certainly hideously expensive) ads on the BBC. With the money that some Tarquin at the BBC spent on those, they could have made a whole series of programmes.

English as tuppence, changing yet changeless as canal water, nestling in green nowhere, armoured and effete, bold flag-bearer, lotus-fed Miss Havishambling, opsimath and eremite, feudal, still reactionary, Rawlinson End.
