Probably a simple one, if you know what you're looking for...

 

Word on my laptop has started displaying all the formatting marks on the documents, probably due to me brushing against a key (I hate laptops!).

 

How do I get it back to 'normal'?

toolbars--->standard

 

the button your looking for is like a "P" but back to front.

If you mean the formatting marks in a document, and you want to get rid of them, whilst in the document click on Tools, then Options and in the menu box that pops up make sure that ALL is unchecked in the foramtting menu, there are other options there that you might have to deselect too.
