ABU 6500 Mag Brake Problem

I have never realy gained fall confidence with ABU 6500 Mag Lite, it appeared inconsistent whilst casting.

 

On looking at the mag brakes they did not appear to move when you moved the slide.

 

I removed the slide cover and after some experimenting worked out how to replace the cover correctly so that it connected the slide with the magnets.

 

I then found out the problem, if I move the slide towards its' highest resistance point it disconnects from the spring controlling the mags.

 

Whilst cleaning I have moved the slide to this position, hence the loss of mag brakes.

 

Is this a common fault?
