Mullet oh those wiley buggers!

I read the Medway Mullet article in Sea Angler also.

Alan Yates says the intelligence of the fish is hyped up and a clever fish might make the captor look smart, but the truth is the fish are dumb and have a two minute memory.

He later goes on to say they are as crafty as a butchers dog and the first one hooked was sure to be the last. Even a missed strike would spook a shoal for several hours.

Confused.........I was.

Been thinking- I guess I could try and rig up my fly rod with a fixed spool, light line, and freshwater float- would be lighter than the spinning reel.

Would that work?

Or should I get my coat!

Hi Grant,

I had a fly-fisherman come down from the Midlands who wanted a crack at mullet.

I convinced him that, at least in the muddy Medway, he'd have a better chance fishing bread.

So he fished a hook baited with a small flake of bread beneath a strike indicator and a mono leader.

He went home a happy chappie having landed two medway mullet, on his fly-fishing tackle :)

Cheers Leon- seems a good plan so may try this weekend.

I do have a very ready supply of chocolate brownies, which are going off as we speak. Has anyone tried that sort of thing instead of bread?
