sea trout off the beach

Had a good do on the sea trout last night up here on a local beach armed with 9-10 foot rods and plenty of sandeels.

Been out most of this week but havent hit it off, until last night, caught 2 one at 3lb and another cracker at 4lb fishing was good conditions were better t shirt weather! :icon_eek:

what a buzz fishing these things, when they take its only one way you go, you run for the sea and hold on, pound for pound cant be beaten!!

heres a few pics, 3 in total 2 for me and 1 for my fishing buddy.

this cant be scotland?

ablsaloutly belting night, when these things hit your rod goes flying across the sand and you have to chase them, some guys up the beach caught 2 at 4lb and 5lb, but we have had them up to 8lb and even had some straighten our hooks so they must be there over the 10lb figure.

Sorry all fish were kept, we had been out all week and caught 1 small one, so these three are for the table, sorry if this offends but i like to eat them!

Just a reminder that in England and Wales, if sea trout are caught (out to 6 miles) and are to be retained, you need an EA migratory fish rod licence.

Brilliant catch Thurso.

I often see them in my local estuary when spinning for bass, launching themselves vertically out of the water.

In theory I should be have had one by now, when lure fishing for bass.

leon ive had one of them for years!

in all honesty though we only keep 2 or 3 every season and have a few freinds round for dinner, we put almost all back as they are all hen fish making to spawn.

Up here you only need permmision from the person that holds the Salmon & Sea Trout rights for the shore line you are fishing, any further than 1 mile out and they are fair game :)

I remember what someone said to me when I commented about him camping on an island on Loch Lomond. "There's only one policeman covering a radius of twenty miles round here, do you think he's got nothing better to do than row out here to stop me camping?" I suppose the same sort of thing applies :)

Seems its a sign of the times when anglers feel they have to apologise for keeping a fish or 2 for the table what are things coming to? oh and dont forget all those rules.

Great catch Thurso I hope you soon get to land a big one there not easy fish to catch. :)

Gentlemen, I goofed when I saw this first post from this new poster (he may be someone we know under a different user name rather than new or he may just be new - I dunno). It was a pretty scathing put-down of a thurso angler, a good angler and long time good member here.

I guess I was hoping that after a pretty rocky start this user would ease up and maybe be an asset to the forum since he seems to have some amount of technical knowledge.

Well oops. Didn't happen. Later posts in this thread have only given us more accusations and nothing helpful. I have suspended this account so he can read but not reply.
