Advice about the Penn Combo's.

Ive come to the conclusion that my original budget of £60 pounds will not suffice and im willing to stretch to £150. Ive heard good things about the Penn combos. Is there a better way to spend this kind of money without going second hand. Im looking for a 12ft beachcaster 4 - 6oz and id want a top range FS reel. Im fishing the east of scotland and wont be looking for basking sharks, just ammusement.

With the penn combo you would get a quality fixed spool in the surfmaster. The powerstick rod is decent enough aswell. Another option is to phone round the tackle shops to see if they have any old stock of abu conolon beachcasters as you will get them at a reasonable price. Team this up with a shimano reel either aerlex or biomaster in the 7000/8000 size and you will have a good set up. You should be able to get the rod for about £70-90 maybe cheaper if your lucky and the reel will cost £50-60.

My advice would be to get a rod capable of casting 8 oz and then reckon on using it with a 5 oz weight.
