Yep, i would recomend this forum for anybody just starting. It is best to ask specific questions and at least somebody will answer. Have you got your equiptment yet?

    Hook sizes.

Experementation will be the game, but i need a clue. I dont want to do anything pointless, so ill follow the herd a bit until i re-invent the rod. Its an emotional speech though, brought a tear to my eye.
  3. Ok, lets start with, what is it?

    Hook sizes.

Im going to be fishing the River Forth on Wednesday and Thursday, ill be using crab, mussel or lugworm as bait. Im not fussy about what i catch. What size hook is too big. How about size 3/0 or smaller. Will i get away with it.
  5. Ive seen Alan taking about this in other threads and its stirred my curiosity. Does anybody have any information about this, or perhaps a link to a sight that does.
  6. Romance isnt dead then. You could at least have given the poor woman Valentines weekend without thinking about fish.
  7. I dont have one, but its on my to-buy list. I intend to fish in nasty conditions and it would be nice to have a retreat where i can drink my tea and tie knots. Im not going to splash out and buy one of these carp-o-matic 5000 models, just a sturdy one at about £30-£40. The lads can laugh all they want, it wont be that when the've crawled home miserable and wet and ive stood firm flying the flag, and went home dry with that big winter cod. [ 14. 8. If i had a boat, and a pot, and a clue about where lobsters frequent, and how to cook them, then id definately consider trying to catch some lobsters. On second thoughts, their creepy little legs freak me out.
  9. Welcome to AN crabfat, what kind of info do you require?
  10. What knot would you use? Ive heard varying opinions.
  11. Ive just got my first Sea Fishing outfit and im unsure about the correct way to load the spool, any advice? Cheers
  12. I just bought my first sea fishing outfit this week and i went for the fixed spool. Its a matter of opinion, i dont think your going to be that disadvantaged if you go for a fixed spool.

    Licence

The general public only seem to care about this issue when halfwits from the commercial fishing industry come on telly whinging about their livelyhoods being destroyed by the EU. I dont want to see anybody out of a job but if thats what it takes to conserve our diminishing fish stocks then so be it. Reducing our commercial fishing fleet is the best way to conserve our fish. Unfortunately politicians are in no hurry to come up with a solution, because public opinion is with the fisherman. Whats this got to do with a license, absolutely nothing. Time for me to get of my soap box and do my disapearing act. [ 12. February 2004, 07:58 PM: Message edited by: Sythor ]
