A mate of mine, who's based in Belfast has recently taken up the kayak fishing. We're trying to arrange a get together in a couple of weeks time. The potential venues are Anglesey or Dumfries/Galloway area, due to proximity to ferry ports.

 

I've fished Anglesey a fair bit, but I've never fished the Dumfries/Galloway region of Scotland.

 

If anyone has any tips/advice that they're willing to pass on regarding kayak fishing in that area I'd be most grateful.

Hi Mike,

Borderman and myself visited the Mull of Galloway for a week this July.

The area is superb but can be quite windy,however as you're fishing a thin peninsular you should be able to nip over to a lee side.

The Irish side is rockier and deeper with plenty of big pollack.We certainly caught loads and all but two went back for next year.

The Luce bay side is much more shallow and good for bass and sometimes tope,

Actually late Sept the tope come close inshore I have fished over there for 12 years now and have a static van in Drummore.Will be more than willing to pass on fishing info to you.

 

Spanner also fished there last year. In fact he camped on my caravan park.
