Tenerife Fishing Report

So back to the drab old place I call home.... had some excellent fishing trips in the Tenerife though.

We only fished 4 times and it was always in the evenings about 5.30pm off a sandy beach as it was empting of sun worshippers.

The beach we fished was Fanabe which is the second beach after Puerto Colon in las Americas. Twice we fished at the approach of low tide and the last trip was at the approach of high tide.... however, it did not make any difference to how it fished.

Nothing better than standing on a sandy beach, 23 degrees, watching the sun go down and feeling those fish attacking your bait.

The catches were mainly Sea Bream.. of a decent size, the biggest was about 2 killo's, tasted pretty good after getting the chef at out local friendly resturant to cook a couple up for us.

The tactics... simple, 2 or 3 hook rig, all on wire. large 1/0 hook on the bottom and smaller hooks above... i ended up using a size 8 hook that i took out of my carp fishing gear. The bait was fresh prawns.... well sort of fresh. We took them out and left them in the sun for a couple of hours to toughen up which made them easier to put on the hook and made then stay there longer.

When the fish are about we only needed to cat about 20-30 yards out and you had to be pretty quick getting the line tight and being ready to strike. The bream give a fantastic bite, going by the ones we missed they always went for the head of the prawn... fantastic fight also on light tackle. On the larger hook was a whole prawn and on the other hook we put a tail. We had a few double headers which made for some interesting sport.

Highly recommended and great fun.

For tackle supplies, there is a sports shop in the commercial centre where the Mercadona supermarket is in San Eugenio area of Las Americas, not the cheapest but the staff are helpful and speak pretty good english. Cheaper still is the Sports shop at the front of the Hyper Trebol supermarket on the main road/dual carriageway from las americas to Adeje. A good 2 hook or 3 hook trace will set you back 1 euro compaired to 2 euro's at the first shop mentioned.

Happy fishing folks.

Tim

Just a bit more infomation about whats being caught in Tenerife out on our boat.. I do a fishing report daily and add photos to my gallery for people to see.. we tend to do alot more bottom fishing with the lighter tackle..

Big game fishing is seasonal, usually in the summer time, but the Happy Hooker goes out deep sea fishing all year round to catch a variety of Sharks, Stingrays, Amberjacks etc.. With this type of fishing, you can almost always guarantee that you will catch fish. There are a variety of sharks including blue, mako and hammerheads and fishing with lighter tackle, these can be great fun to bring to the surface and be released of course after the photos have been taken. The Happy Hooker is also located in Puerto Colon, Tenerife South and offers a variety of fishing excursions daily.
