Anyone used Jotun antifouling ?

Used to be an Interspeed Ultra user but got persuaded to try Jotun Seaforce 30 this year on my Merry Fisher 805. Anyone else used this or got any advice ?

I've not used Jotun, but it should be good stuff given that the commercial fishermen and cargo vessels often use Jotun stuff to paint their vessels in general. I personally use micron optima on my MI21 (marina based). It works brilliantly once you've got about 3 or 4 coats on the hull, however it's so soft that it wears off the waterline too quickly and grows green hair. This year I think I'll give the transom and waterline a coat of Trilux as a basecoat, then put the optima on top.

Toerag about sums it up. Jotun are primarily commercial paint manufacturers and as such dont have the large Yachting side to the business that International have developed so the paints. Therefore their materials are not as common on small boats as internationals.

 

Having said that when tyneside had a ship repair industry (where I worked as a painting inspector) jotun paints were as good as anything on the market. I assume you are buying this from a chandlers and as such it will be a fresh batch. All too often these paints are leftovers from a commercial repaint job that fell into the back of the van as the guys left site and are often well past their best before date so check the dates on the tin if there are any.
