The cold water Atlantic type are believed to be OK though, its only the warm water tiger variety that is supposed to carry the virus.

Why are we importing the cr............p. To feed to us. Thats all right then?

The virus is killed in the cooking process: indeed I am not too sure how long it would live in a dead host, but agreed there are major problems with the tropical prawn farming industry that should be addressed by the UK Food Standards Agency, before imports are allowed into the UK.

Hi Tony i'm not having a go but they can say that about most foods. The likes of france for example would not even consider importing stuff that appeared dodgy, to the extent of breaking the eu laws they would still deny lifting import restrictions on it. This topic implys that it's ok for us to eat but don't use it for bait, crazy or what. Why should we accept other peoples rubbish and viruses into our food chain. Around christmas time i ate a dodgy prawn and was sick for the first time in my adult life, it wasn't my fault, but i had to suffer, just imagine what this does to the eldely and the frail, it's not very good.

I've seen them on sale in both French Spanish markets as well and they were imports not local produce.

So if that is the case Tony U i will carry on eating them. If the french say they are ok thats good enough for me. Don't know about using them for bait though!
