Arrived today, genuine scotty, brand new in the box :thumbs:

Mine arrived today and as you said the are the genuine artical. The boxes were showing signs of past water damage and the rod holders around the screw nut were showing signs of being wet for a while. Probably why they were so cheap ,that said these are robust items and designed to get wet and I am still well please with the purchase.

The best drogue to buy for slowing a kayak on the drift is the Wychwood - but it is just a big square of nylon.

 

I bet if you went to a kite shop and bought 1m of kite material - or a sailmakers yard and asked for some offcut big enough, you or your missus could knock one up every bit as good.

Hem the edges all the way round - easy if you have a sewing machine.

Sew on a small ribbon tape to each corner to make a loop.

Thats it - just attach some cord (kite flying cord!) of equal length to each corner tape loop, join together - if you do this as just two longer lengths going diagonally with their ends at a corner tape each it will be neater - split ring over the two (4) cords with a big swivel - line to kayak.

 

Tie off kayak line to anchor haul. Throw drogue overside. Let drift open it out (1m sq is huge - 0.5m sq plenty big enough).

When finished, to haul in easily just grab ONE of the corner lines and pull that one - the whole thing with fold up and come in corner first. No need for an extra line to the middle of the drogue.

 

Drogues with a hole in the middle don't work too well - they work as a drogue but your drift will be much faster. If you want to use the above drogue and drift faster just set it closer to the kayak so it is less efficient.

 

 

Should have said - if you can put a little piece of lead sheet in two of the corners and a cork on the other two lines it will deploy faster and stay at the surface - less to frighten the fish.
