Garfish

VSTOL Lures

Recommended Posts

The first gar I caught was off Hengistbury Head groyne whilst float fishing for mackerel using a slither of mackerel for bait.

The float took of like a rocket and dived out of sight, I lifted the rod and set the hook and all hell let loose. Having not caught one before I thought I was into a good mackerel or a reasonable bass that was until it surfaced and went scudding along with half its body out of the water shaking its head.

Yes they put up a good fight on light tackle and over the years I caught quite a few by the same method on marks along the south coast.

I have eaten them and they are a nice meal, highly favoured by the French I believe.

I fish, I catches a few, I lose a few, BUT I enjoys. Anglers Trust PM

Forget the summer get fishing for them now as there are plenty of specimen garfish down here at the moment. They will be gone soon and return later in the summer. I had a couple of lovely ones on the lure last week.

Sea fishing is like golf, you don't have to eat the ball to have fun.
