Trolling from a kayak

I've heard 3 to 4 knots is the optimum trolling speed but I have no idea how fast this is? Is this a medium or fast paddle rate?

Any other tips?

Thanks

When I troll on fresh waters because the depth can vary so much I use a floating lure that is a medium diver. I have found that if I use a sinking lure when I stop or slow down it often snags on the bottom. Because my paddle speed is fairly slow (I often slow right down when features show on the sonar), a deep diver will go to the depth that a medium diver would on a powered troll.
