  1. Look on the bright side. If you ever move back you can buy all the newest shiniest things on the market! There is also lake fishing to consider instead of the sea (unless you are moving to the Sahara ) good luck (I will keep an eye on Ebay)
  2. Hi Martin. Glad you had a good time. I can't wait until the end of the month and I envy you for being able to get there for a look see. They say that time spent in recce is seldom wasted At least if I don't catch I can claim that I didn't know the water See you soon. Nige.
  3. When I troll on fresh waters because the depth can vary so much I use a floating lure that is a medium diver. I have found that if I use a sinking lure when I stop or slow down it often snags on the bottom. Because my paddle speed is fairly slow (I often slow right down when features show on the sonar), a deep diver will go to the depth that a medium diver would on a powered troll.
  4. I cannot agree more. I just need polorised for fishing as I have a decent pair of Oakleys so have set the £50 limit. Thanks. Nige
  5. Thanks for the advice. I always buy UVA and B rated glasses but I have got the £10 specials from the tackle shop. If we are to have another good summer I wanted to get some better ones. Thanks alot. Nige.
  6. Managed to get out for the first time this year and fished in the lake district. I was wondering if anyone can recomend a decent pair of polarised sunglasses at around the £50 price as the ones I have are cheap and nasty. After a day on the water my mark 1 eyeballs were getting very tired.
  7. Definately Muddles the brain but clears out the pipework
  8. When flyfishing I have had one in the back of the cap, and a couple in the back of the hand and one in the thigh all on exceptionally windy days, but all were easy to pull out and thankfully not too deep. Think I'll start taking a helmet on the windy days Had a fly in my cheek once It was de barbed so came out straight away. Always wear a hat and glasses just in case. I lure fish now as trying to cast a fly was not my thing. I was definately Burt Wa** caster
  9. Will definately be bringing the Yaks up next year for a weekend. Will try to contact you before we come Which bit of Cumbria do you call home? Not took the Yaks to sea yet so could do with your Knowledge. Could be a pint of Jennings in it for you
  10. Count me in especially if we get Snecklifter with the sausage
  11. Fished on Windermere last Friday and got 2 pike. Tried Derwent Water last Saturday and got blown backwards Visit the lakes around 8 times a year, Brother in law Paul and myself now fully equipped for yakking so hopefully will take you up on your offer next year. You can help me loose my saltwater cherry Be warned I am an ex pongo and my brother is in the mob so I know all about the golden rivet
  12. Hi. I fully understand your dilemna. At the moment I wear longjohn wetsuit bottoms sealskinz waterproof socks and a hard soled bootie. On top Thermal vest, fleece shirt and breathable cag top. Longjohns, £32 Cag top £23 booties £ 18, Catching Fish - Priceless. All from Decathlon in Sheffield. They also do a decent PFD for around £25. I only yak inland at the moment but would take the advice that most of the other guys give and get a dry suit if going to sea.
  13. Saw one at Windermere canoe kayak (tel 015394 44451) on Saturday. First time there and really friendly staff. I am sure that if you asked for a "best price" he may do a deal, although I did not see how much it was on sale for.
  14. There is a seller on ebay that sells the Eagle Cuda 240 which includes a plotter gps for £120 (imported from USA). I have only used it once but both Gps and sonar work fine. At this price it seems a good alternative to seperate units or more expensive models. It is good for the price, but I could not yet comment on its long term use.
  15. Excellent post. In Holland they do not weigh the pike as the weight can vary so much due to feeding. The Dutch measure the length of the fish and say that it is a 80cm fish etc. It can be frustrating to catch a potential 20 pounder that has had not has it's dinner yet. If you are getting a lot of weed why not try a Spinner bait.
