Building a carp/coarse fishing lake

If you want to build your own, find a plot of land that as Budgie said, will hold water, preferably one with a stream running through it (which will keep the water "topped up"), otherwise you will have to excavate, line the entire lake and then fill it!

 

I have heard of butyl-lined fisheries (there used to be one on the Stockport Fed card), but as far as I know that would be very unusual. Seems much more common to just dig below the water table and let it fill up (indeed, watching all of the new gravel pits appearing round the Cotswold water park area, the difficult bit seems to be pumping the water out of them while they're still being dug!)
