thank you martin.

looking at the old post several members say you do not need insurance for surfboards .well here in the channel islands we have always had to reg boards and insure for third party .joining the local surf club used to be the cheapest . as far as kayaks are concerned not compulsory as yet but i can see it happening with the numbers increasing year by year .

i wasn't overly concerned about injuries to a 3rd party i was thinking more along the line of if my yak got damaged in transit on if i run aground and damage the hull.

One local lake here, ( Bosworth Water Park ) insist on £2,000,000 3rd party liability insurance before you are allowed to lauch. Certificate must be produced.

Izzetafox - If you join British Canoe Union (£30.80) it provides 3rd cover of £5 million. Also, provides

license to kayak on most navigable rivers and British waterways canals. Could be handy if you like to

coarse fish different venues - i'll get myself - one day !

Regarding insuring my yak itself (old frenzy) i think the premiums would cost more than the old tubs worth !

I have faxed BCU to try and find out what waterways the BWB permit covers...no reply yet. Tried BWB website and links to try and find a full list of accessible waters but no joy. Obviously the insurance is a bonus although only 3rd party. I will have to check with Direct Line to see if yak is covered or if I have to add it.

Will post list if it arrives. Apparently you get a licence sticker for your yak to prove authority...

When I phoned BCU, they informed me that new members would recieve contact from a local "access officer" who would provide the lowdown on available waters / best access points etc again could be useful
