pebbles and duct tape pierce the duct tape then tie a big eff off granny knot tape pebble on and away you go

 

note dont try this if you intend on casting very far as a pebble in the back of the head may cause moderate pain

Get a length of John Roberts rig tubing and cut it in half, warm one end with a lighter, screw in a curtain ring and dip it in cold water for a solid fixing. Slide half a wine cork or a couple of fox pop-up balls onto the other end and slip it/them up the tube until it meets the curtain ring. You can glue it in place if you wish bit it should be tight enough to stay in place. Fix another ring onto the other end as before and that's about it. Hey presto....bouyant leger stem.
