If you feel moved to eat zebra mussels… That’s fine. They are edible, but most experts advise against eating any found in polluted waters since the mussels accumulate contaminants and toxins from the water as they filter. As long as they come from a clean body of water, zebra mussels can be used in any recipe calling for mussels. But keep an eye out. They’re very crafty…

Anyone used them for bait yet?

Maybe I am thinking of a different creature, but there have been masses of these tiny "Zebra" mussels in the R Cray and in Horseshoe Lake for at least 14 years. Roach love 'em :)
