18mm Pop-Up

To counter balance the pop-up with a short size 8/10 hook??

Just a ruff idea?

I bought a couple of tubs of cheap 18mm pop-ups from my local tackle shop. One tub of 18mm Ron Hutchinson squid and octopus and 18mm Nutrabaits tecni-spice. Both for a fiver.

I am busy adding some extra spice and fish oils to boost the attraction.

Hi Lopex,

To begin with I personally wouldn't go any smaller than a size 8 for an 18mm popup as a 10 will affect your hooking potential. As for shot size, it's something I always do when I get to the bank as I like to get it just right so that it is more of a critically balanced bait. This allows the bait to fly into the carps mouth with very little effort. If the shot isn't quite heavy enough then I just add a small amount of heavy metal putty around it, or depending on the make of boilie you can actually squeeze the popup under the surface of the water and a small amount of air will be forced out of the bait to make it less boyant.

Hope this helps
