Outboard

I was given this tip a long time ago and it does work

If you want to clean up the gearbox housing on an outboard use Coke, get a large bottle and immerse the part over night. It will come out like new. For clogged waterways put muffs on the engine with a short hose held higher than the top of the engine and pour the Coke in, pull the engine over slowly to circulate the Coke. It will dissolve all the salt and corrosion. Something to do with the phosphoric acid the Coke contains.

Impellers are available from :- www.jabsco.com by mail order a lot cheaper than from engine dealers. Check the Stainless housing that the impeller sits in and the cover, if they are scored you will have to replace them. Make sure when you fit the impeller that you bend the blades in the right direction for the rotation of your engine. Finally ckeck that all the bits of the impeller are out of the engine, if the impeller has broken up and you leave anyting in there you will still have overheating as it will block the waterways
