wow nice fish glad it was released

i think there was a porgy caught out of clovelly 15 - 20 years ago that was around that weight, but the record didnt stand for some reason.i could be wrong but i think the chap who caught it was a charter skipper from there called clive.

theres a mark local to me where the brittish record tope was caught.maybe these beauties could be targetted safely from there?

how you would go about it though is a different matter

Hiya,

this is from the Shark Trust website (www.sharktrust.org) regarding it

06/05/2006 Porbeagle reports

Porbeagle tagged off Bude

Fishing 4 miles off Bude, Cornwall, last weekend fishermen Peter Scott, 54, and Graeme Pullen caught a 9ft Porbeagle from their 14 ft boat the Lucky Strike.

With the recent arrival of shoals of Pollack it was not surprising that Porbeagle were following behind. Native to our waters Porbeagle shark are favoured by anglers who are encouraged to tag and release their catch. Having tagged the shark whilst still in the water Pullen and Scott estimated the weight at 550lb. Although likely to be a generous estimate (UK record for a Porbeagle is for an 11ft pregnant female shark weighing in at 503lb), there is no doubt that this was an impressive animal.

Tag and release studies are extremely important for the conservation of many shark species, providing information on the behaviour of some of the most illusive animals in our seas.
