I'm pleased you got your own thread, i'd really like to own my own kayak and now i can read up to my hearts content.

I would absolutly love to but first two things need to happen

1. Me lose my pot (belly).

2. Get enough money together.

 

I don't expect any help with the first but any idea how much a rig would cost?

And has anyone started using outriggers?

Geoff,

you should be able to get on the water for about £500 if buying new. A secondhand kayak might come up - keep your eyes/ears to the ground. But a GOOD paddle though - you will not regret it - and buty a paddle of about 220 or 230cm at most - mine is 210cm and I am 6' exactly. Using a shorter paddle alllows you to use a bigger blade and shift more water with the same effort - think levers - a long lever will soon tire you out, use a shorter paddle.

Fishing gear is the same as you would use off the rocks/pier/small boat. Nothing fancy - in fact you can afford to go lighter.
