  1. I bought a 40 inch pop a net from the internet and they are massive. Plus they fold up and can go in a seat box. Not very expensive either. I think I just googled the name.
  2. Thanks elton, thats the one. She's HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE! (as my mate often finds himself saying)
  3. Hi everyone. I remember reading of a boat that was doing 36 hour charters (or something similar) from either Bridlington or Whitby a few years ago, but cannot find it now. Does anyone know of a boat from either of these ports that still does this? Thanks in advance...
  4. Who would want to be seen dead with thier keys hanging of this..... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Real-Shark-Head-Keyr...1QQcmdZViewItem ? He's got the cheek to advertise it under sea fishing!
  5. Just thought, does anyone remeber when you could write articles or stories for sea angler and win gear? One of those stories was about fishing in the future. In it they had glass domes to fish under and a rocket launcher that would fire out bait and line. Does anyone remember this? Move over Arthur C Clarke
  6. I wonder how many of these will actually be seen on the beaches? £650 IS a lot of money but there are a lot of rods that are VERY expensive and still don't give you any gain in distance unless you work on your casting. And yet people still queue up to buy them hoping for a few extra yards. I've read peoples comments about safety and whilst I agree mainly, I think a rod casting 6oz of lead can be even more dangerous. This gadget fires where you aim it, if you have a crack off in the middle of a Pendulum cast the lead can go anywhere, including straight along the prom, etc. I don't think these gadgets are the best thing ever and I can't see me using one, but i'll be intrested to see how many people take them up. I guess they use a pound of lead as you can't use grip wires and I guess a pound will hold bottom in quite a strong current? Baits will be destroyed as well, unless you use some kind of PVA bag? Casting to me is part of the enjoyment of fishing, and I read people saying this is the end of fishing as we know it but people have been trying to get distance other than by casting for ages. People use ballons to drift out, and I have read of tope anglers casting out at low water with braid and retreating with the tide untill they have as much as 350 yards of line out (obviously no bait changes). I bet some tope anglers take these up. Bite detecection will be a problem as well (I imagine) at 300 yards. I guess you would have to use braid. I look forward to seeing one of these in action, but i'll be sticking with my rod. How often would you cast 30 yards into a gulley with this, if 300 yards was on the cards.
  7. I guess it just depends on where you live Mike. I was at go fishing this week and listening to the lectures by Alan Yates and Chris Clarke, which I thought were grteat and really intresting, but not really relevant to the type of fishing I do. I guess the north east must be a bit of an anolomy
  8. Thanks for your help everyone. Unfortunatly the fish where i live don't seem to read the rule book and are more than happy to scoff peelers. I have been told that crab peel all through the year in deeper water, so it is quite possible the fish eat them all year. I don't expect bait on the cheap, I am just hoping to find the best possible bait I can.
  9. You might have guessed! Peeler crab and whiterag. I do not have the time to collect bait and fish, and when I have tried I have been VERY unsuccesful. I know both baits are in demand and peeler are out of season, but i have heard that other areas do still get them. I live in Sunderland and so I don't have much chance of either bait and would be willing to pay postage. I have bought crabs before by mail order in April, but cannot find the address.
  10. Hi everyone. Does anyone know of places that will send bait? I know it is better to support your local shop and all, but at the moment they don't have the type of bait I would like. Any help would be much appreciated!
  11. When I put the epoxy on my rings I used a cordless drill with a cable tie on the trigger tightened JUST enough to spin the rod once every twenty seconds (the slowest I could get it to go). I also used a polestyrene fish box with grooves cut into it to support it so i could leave it for a couple of hours and come back when a skin had formed on the epoxy. I know thats not to do with the actual whipping but it might help with the overall building.
  12. --> QUOTE(Norm B @ Jan 15 2006, 08:12 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I've seen them but nobody's ever asked me to review one but I've tried the Maxximus boat travel rod and it was pretty good for the money, especially the tube. Thanks guys. I have the Maxximus uptider but not sure which one of these two to splash the cash on. Anyone else? Cheers
  13. Hi Everyone, Just wondering if any of you have any experiance with the multi section beachcasters from fox and maxximus? Anything about either would be great! Thanks!
  14. Ideally i'd love one of them, but as i would only use the rod occasionally (high winds, big seas) I can't justify a new one, and they are a bugger to find second hand. Thats why I thought of altering an axelleratoras they are 100 pounds new. I will take on all you have said regarding safety, but will probally not be able to get casting lessons as I live in the North East, and from what I can gather it is not a popular style up here. Thanks for your help!
  15. lol! I wouldn't mind seeing that. It had been suggested to me that you leave a large gap between reel and first ring to spread the coils of line as they come off the fixed spool. Sorry to keep picking your brain Stan, but what would you suggest as the maximum distance between reel and first ring, and how many rings would you recommend as a minimum (just roughly if you can, and i won't quote you on it!) Cheers!
  16. From what I've heard and read it is like a pendulum, , but with your back to the sea. So on the release you are firing it back over your shoulder and out to sea (not a great explanation I know but I haven't even attempted one myself yet). I've been told it is good when you need to cast a heavy weight into an onshore wind. Newt , thanks for the diagram. Tel, do you use yours with a fixed spool down the butt and only a few rings up the top? And what weight can you backcast with the axelerator? Thanks everyone!
  17. Thanks Stan, I thought you might be able to help. Does fast tip action mean a stiff tip?
  18. A lot of the good beach fishing books I own suggest fishing as if you were uptiding, letting a bow develop. They say most bites will set the tip springing back and most of the better fish hook themselves. I have tried it but the tides int the areas I fish don't seem strong enough. The authors of the books where i have read of it seem to be from the south east and anglia, where I gather they get more tide than the north east. I imagine it would work great in the Bristol Channel, and in fact might be your only chance of holding bottom.
  19. Hi everyone. I am after giving backcasting a go but don't want to splash out loads on a rod that I will only use a few times a year (when there are big seas and big leads are needed). I've looked everywhere for a second hand backcasting rod but can't find one so was wondering if anyone knows if I can convert a diffrent rod to a backcaster by changing the ring patterns? I was thinking a Ron Thompson Axellerator as these are not to expensive. Does anyone know if this will work, and if this rod is long enough and suitable? Thanks in advance!
  20. LOL! I know what you mean about the three types Vagabond. On the odd occasion that i do catch fish my wife informs me that she only eats the third kind too. I hope the journalist in question reads this thread, although that sounds a little too like article research.
  21. I have a Abu 5600ab that I would like to convert to a ct. Does anyone know of anywhere (website) that has advice on similar types of conversion? I'm also intrested in upgrading some of my other reels (ceramic bearings etc) and have read of mag conversions for reels (ie. SL30SH) but all references seem to be on american websites, so I was wondering if this type of modification is more relevant for thier type of fishing? Are there any good reel web pages that you know of? Thanks for any advice!
  22. Stan, your a star. Thanks very much everyone!
  23. Its nice to see pictures for pictures sake sometimes. Reminds you what its like to be out fishing or by the sea instead of at work all the time. Thanks for the pictures cjs2. Don't use the spell checker, if we wanted perfect grammer we would read books. I never check my spelling! (you can probaly tell) And thanks for the link Newt.
  24. Well a big cod would say that wouldn't he?! He probaly wouldn't want to get caught. Seriously, any ideas guys. I just want to try some diffrent things. You never know!
  25. Does anyone know where i can buy Pilchard oil mail order? I know lots of places that sell small bottles but i want a bigger bottle of it. The biggest i can find is half a litre. Cheers guys!
