River Kennet - Nr Thatcham   1815 - 2315   Cool, clear and calm (despite being a very breezy day - the wind died down at dusk). 9ºC when I packed up but felt cooler. 26 September (part 2)

K&A Canal - Thatcham   1515 - 1815   Bright and sunny. AT around 15ºC - a very pleasant afternoon.   11 Roach. River Kennet - Speen Moors   0645 - 1045   Cool and bright. Ice on the car for the first time this autumn - temps down to 1ºC overnight (in our greenhouse)! NAA Stillwater - Thatcham   1800 - 0300   Warm, still overcast evening - giving way to a chilly clear night after 2300 - temp down to 6ºC when I packed up.   5 Carp; 14lb 3oz, 9lb 14oz, 9lb 5oz, 8lb 8oz, 8lb 3oz. 2 Perch.   Failed attempt at an autumn crucian - though I did have a couple roll in the swim in the first hour or so as it got dark. Sea fishing near Swanage 8.9.15

5.30-6.30am I'd never caught a sea fish on a lure from the bank, and didn't really know where to start. I have memories of casting out into the ocean in vague hope, but nothing coming of it, and not really expecting anything to come of it! K & A Canal (flowing), Thatcham.   0615 - 1115   Cool and overcast with the odd spot of drizzle.   1 Chub; 2¼lb, 1 Perch; 1lb 1oz. 21 Dace - to 10oz, 5 Roach, 6 Gudgeon and 2 Brownies - biggest 2½lb.   A morning's trotting - fished half a dozen swims in total, some new and some familiar ones. Brief Thames roach session 31.8.15

7.20- 8.30pm   A brief dusk session so I could feel I'd been out. Fishing feeder 30yds out with sweetcorn on the hook and open feeder with bread crumb, sweetcorn and 3mm pellets. A type of fishing I'm pretty hopeless at, but was pleased to catch 5 chunky roach, mainly 5-6oz, in the first half hour. One poor little fella hadn't actually been hooked, but had somehow got himself jammed in the feeder!   I was just starting to think I might get a nice roach as dark fell, when the swim went dead.

A Red Letter ten minutes

River Thames, Sunday 30th August 2015.   What a strange day this was. It started with a chub quest and ended with three perch for 9lb 7oz. Not all of them were mine though and I have to congratulate Steve on taking the laurels today. River Kennet - Nr Thatcham.   0945 - 1245   Calm and overcast with 'milky' sunshine. Not particularly warm for late August (19ºC) - but it made for a very pleasant morning's roaming. River Kennet, Nr Thatcham.   1330 - 1630   Bright and breezy after HEAVY morning rain (circa 1inch). River coloured up but dropping.   4 Chub: 3lb 6ox, 1¼lb and 2 chublets. 5 Dace - 1 clonker of 10oz (weighed), 1 Roach, 2 Gudgeon & 2 Brownies - both over 1lb.   Post 'monsoon' trotting session. River Kennet - Nr Thatcham.   1930 - 0000   Overcast with light rain, temps around 16ºC all evening. Alders Lake - Thatcham   0530 - 1030   Bright and quite cool with a breeze picking up for last hour.   3 Rudd. 9 Perch.   A dawn session more in hope than expectation! River up a god 3-4 inches and carrying a tinge of colour after yesterdays deluge.   14 Dace; with a few chunky ones in the 6-8oz bracket. 4 Roach. 1 Grayling (small). 1 Bleak. 1 Brown Trout; 2lb 15oz!   Spent a couple of hours in each of 2 swims - hoping a chub or two would put in an appearance - but my only 'chub' turned into a rather fat brown trout at the net!

Foiled by the bream? 20.7.15

7-10pm Tried a new gravel pit known to have a good head of bream which should beat my rather low pb of 5.5lbs. Hmm, I have little experience of this type of fishing. Clear, plenty of weed at the edge, but I cast out to a random spot about 30yds out in 15 feet of water. The feeder wasn't coming back too weedified. Fished sweetcorn or sweetcorn/maggot on the hook with conventional groundbait approach.   About every 5-10 minutes the bobbin would jerk up an inch or so, but I never got a good bite
