Well done Chris cracking barbel! I've still yet to land a single one this season

I'm interested that you speak positively about the clear evening. (Where I was the fog only came later.) I've always assumed (and I think found) a clear evening is bad news, even when dusk comes. Logically I'd have thought the reverse, cos if they haven't fed during the day because of high light levels you'd think they might be up for it at dusk, but that's not what I found on Monday trying for a few roach on Dobsons, nor on other occasions I can remember.

 

But it certainly worked for you! I'd be interested in any comments on clear evenings and whether certain fish are the ones to go for then.

Viney - it was your lack of success that had me steeling myself for the long haul - so count meself pretty lucky to strike gold right away! JC - I was talking more about angler comfort when I said was a lovely evening - mild no wind - and these swim is notoriously breezy I've found in the past!! I'm always more confident at dusk - regardless of cloud cover - and it did get pretty dark - especially as the moon didn't get up till around 2200 - (About the same time it got foggy!)

Just out of interest were you on an NAA or TAA stretch? Even Hambridge still hasn't thrown up a barbel for me this year

Was on a NAA water - not very far from Rusty's co-ordinates of the other day! ;-)

 

I've not had a barbel from Hambridge either - which if I go through the whole season not catching one from there will be the frist season EVER I've not had one (and my 1st season fishing there was 82/83!) There is a swim at H I used to call The Banker - a swim I'd occasionally take a guest to in order for them to get their first barbel - and it never let me down. Not had a fish from it in the last 3 seasons.
