River Kennet - Nr Thatcham

0700 - 1200 Heavy drizzle for first couple of hours then dry and murky. 13º -> 15º

1 Barbel 10lb 2oz, 11 trout (3 X 1lb+), 10 dace.

This was meant to be just a trotting session but it was so wet on arrival, I set the brolly up and lowered a ledgered pellet under the near bank. Things got off to an auspicious start (NOT) with a cormorant surfacing in my swim followed by it's mate. Then a family of swans thought it would be a good place to have a ruck - think daddy swan was trying to persuade the kids to leave home. Loads of ranunuculus coming down the river as well (I blame the swans for that too!). I was just starting to feel sorry for myself - and having one of those 'I'll be glad when I've had enough of this' thoughts when the rod was wrenched from my grasp. Really nice coloured fish which put up a decent scrap in the fast current - I felt somewhat guilty as I guided it into the net. Eventually rain abated and I was able to wade out and do some trotting. All the trout were caught before I had a dace. Dace were a really nice size so worth the wait!
