Signing back on again (if that's ok)
Firstly apologies for the interruption in service, I was trying to be too ambitious with writing things up at a time when I’d been out on a number of occasions, I should’ve kept it simple. Secondly I reckon that everything’s getting a bit intense on the main board so I thought I’d retreat to this sleepy backwater again where normal anglers can report on their successes or failures. I like the fact that it’s also a place where some very good anglers report their catches with no fuss so it’s the best of both worlds really.
I‘ll will also admit to being very flattered by some comments made by a chap I met whilst fishing the Kennet a couple of weeks back. I’ve not seen any posts from him but he said that he enjoyed reading the blog and was disappointed that it had stopped, I hope he finds the resurrection just as enjoyable.
I’ve got a day out planned for tomorrow and will be trying for chub ledgering with bread flake and feeding bread mash. I have tried this method once before but it wasn’t very successful, despite leaving my bread to dry out for three days the resultant mash was very gloopy. I’d prepared it the night before and really mashed it up which I think was a mistake, I couldn’t throw a ball because it kept sticking to my hand. Tomorrow I’ll prepare it bankside.
I’ll also be taking water temperatures in future. This is something I’ve never bothered with before but over time I hope to see a correlation between temps and particular species feeding. Probably not too relevant for chub or grayling but I would like to find out if there’s a temperature at which perch are more likely to feed. I’ve had some guidance here but there’s nothing quite like dipping your own probe and watching the numbers change on the LCD display…simple things. The probe in question is normally used to check the temperature of the Sunday roast.
Looking forward to tomorrow.
