  1. Blimey. If it was a "Slater" (David Slater... perhaps the best of the wooden reel manufacturers) then I would say OK, but I would have thought this one was a little overpriced. It does have a box, which might bump the price up, but all the same. However, I'm no expert, so I'm happy to be shot down
  2. Sensas sun shades for maggots??? Are they made by Ray Ban?

  4. So I'm in a tackle shop on Thursday, buying a few bits and pieces and I think... need a bait bucket. Something to hold a load of hemp, corn, groundbait etc. etc. I ask the dealer what he has and he points to a corner of the shop where they have their buckets. Big plastic buckets. With SENSAS written on them.... £14.99 eh? £14.99 eh? £14.... ok ok... I heard you. Fifteen quid for a plastic bucket with adverts on it? Are they having a laugh? Should they not pay me fifteen quid to walk around with one? Needless to say I got the perfect item from B&Q for about 2 or 3 quid. Spindle "tight as a duck's ..."

  6. For that it would have to be metal and shiny.

  8. I also prefer to buy goods recommended to me... I hate spending a load of money only to read the next day that somebody else thinks what I've bought is a load of crap. However, recommended or not, I would definitely not buy anything with the words "armour", "full metal jacket", "diaflash" or anything else sounding tacky.

  10. Pete Thomas. To be the master (Richard Walker) would be great, but to watch him at his work must have been fascinating, and to have netted the great fish for him must have been very special. Alternatively, Bernard Venables. He understood what fishing was about, and what it should still be.

  12. Do you know how many times I ask myself the same question as I sit here writing the same old software???? Problem is... if I changed jobs to work in the fishing industry, will I feel the same after a while, and go off fishing???? Or would I get paid anything like as much, and then not be able to afford all the nice tackle that I can due to this job? Maybe I could cross the boundary of IT and fishing. Maybe I could do graphic design on a PC to design new fishing reels or something...

  14. I'm farely certain somebody does an automatic (battery operated) line stripper - Berkley? As for loading line on, if the spool is a bulk spool (say .25 lb) I tend to put the spool in a bucket of water and wind it on to the reel while it is in the water. This has a number of benefits, but in particular, the wet line reduces friction caused by the line running through my fingers (to provide tension). Or so I think!!

  16. Thankyou gents. I'll stick to mono on my Wizard and use the fireline on the Drennan. With this decision, I plan to float-fish with the Fireline for tench and small carp (the Wizard I use to touch-leger on the river). I'll let you know how I get on.

  18. I assume it is alright with SICs? If so, I'll stick to using it on the Drennan rod.

  20. Blimey... I could get me, my wife, the mother-in-law, the new baby (when it arrives), half of Toys-R-Us, twelve fishing rods, 80 gallons of maggots, reels, line, hooks, and two worms, all in there at once... Mmm... on second thoughts, I'll leave the mother in law at home, and put another two or three more rods in instead! Nice looking cars actually, they make the Picasso look expensive!

  22. I've just ordered some 4lb Fireline to put on one of my centrepins. It was suggested to me on a previous post ages ago that Fireline works nicely on 'pins so I thought I'd give it a go. My concern is whether or not I should use it with my old Allcock's Wizard (rod), which has Agate Butt and Tip rings with Chrome intermediates, or whether to stick with mono on this rod and use it with another centrepin through my Drennan Tench rod (SIC rings). I know that Fireline is a kind of fused braid with mono on the outside, so I guess it should be OK. It's just that I don't want to groove any of my Allcock rings in a hurry, because I guess it might be a bit more expensive to get the rings replace (probably by a cane specialist).

    Old Reel

Can't tell you too much about the reel Paul, but they do come up fairly regularly on eBay, so you might get an idea of value from there.
