  1. Hello all, there is the first proper meeting of the cornwall kayak angling club next wednesday at 8.00 at the Cornish Arms at Sparnon Gate near Redruth. The club is open to anyone, inexperienced to expert. You don't even have to live in Cornwall. It is going to be affiliated to the CFSA and NFSA and will be eligible to take part in any of there competitions. The club also intend to run its own competitions and have regular meets all around the county. The club had its first meeting last month and it went well with about 15 people turning up, hopefully we will be able to get a few more this time. There have been offers by members of another forum to run a SoT course for club members and a few businesses have offered discounts to club members. For a bit more info see the anglers afloat general forum, there is a sticky on there. I think there is also a post on the world sea fishing forum.
  2. I've got a tesco's own camelbak type thing. I just wear it over my PFD. I think it was about a tenner.
  3. I've put mine on with the screws and had no problems so far, I always set my drag on the reel light anyway so can't see it being a problem. I think using the rivets or bolts is over engineering it.
  4. My prowler has got a raised section along the bottom of it, about half way along, it looks almost like someone has tried to fold it in half. I bought mine second hand and I'm not overly concerned. It still goes well.
  5. I think you have all your posts read until you have reached 16. This is my 16th post so should be the last one that is checked. Sorry, can't help with the fishfinder though.

    Anchoring

I think the reason is so that you can raise and lower the anchor easily from the centre of the yak, but when you have dropped anchor you can set it to either the front or rear of the yak without having to clamber about and risk tipping. I have made an anchor trolley but not used it yet, I have made a short one so i will ony anchor to the rear.
  7. Porthoustock is a nice place to fish from. There are a lot of rocky outcrops just round from the beach. I managed 6 pollock(biggest about a pound), a garfish, and a wrasse of about 3 pound. There were plenty of bass about, I could see them in the water but couldn't get them to take anything. Will hopefully try again soon.
  8. Hi Martin(Turbo), how did you get on at the weekend. I couldn't make it due to a few problems with instructors. But it was also like Pea soup at gwithian. Hopefully it was better at marazion.
  9. Hi Martin(turbo) I might be able to make it this weekend, I am helping out with a beginners surfing weekend but there is going to be F*** all surf. If I get he chance I will see you over there.
  10. Did you take all the fish on float. I might try and give it a go before work on Friday.
  11. I'll give that a try, Porthoustock is only 10 mins from work. I have been getting out every opportunity I can. I was looking at your report from cornwall, with the nice pollack, thats what made me think I need to try something other than trolling. How far out were you when you got the pollack.?
  12. I'm down in west cornwall, Redruth to be exact. I have only been out from Maenporth near Falmouth so far. I have been told the fishing off the North coast near St Agnes is a lot better. I have ben getting my experience up on the sheltered south coast, but will probably venture out later this week. I will try and arrange to go out with someone else when I get the chance. But all my trips so far have been short(2-3 hrs) and early.

    Fish finder

Just had a quick look and found the bit I was on about. Its from OKreally The company link referred to is not supplied from the UK. I can only warn again - Buying fom the US has these disadvantages :- 1) You stand a 50/50 chance of having the parcel impounded by customs & face a possible fine because units made for sale in the US are NOT CE approved - It is illegal to import OR use products that are not CE approved, CE products are made on seperate production to the European specification. 2) US warranty is one year & is held with the company you bought from - i.e. the US retailer so that you have to return it to the US. Compare this with 2 years in the UK (units are built to the higher spec required by CE regulation so are built to a higher spec) 3) Units (where applicable) are not compatible with EU charts & measurement criteria. To declare my interest - Johnson Outdoors are the owners of Humminbird - We benefit whether you buy in the UK or the US so have no axe to grind other than the fact that if you ignore the above then you take the chances associated with this. The strong $/£ rate makes it look attractive to buy from the States.....it could be an expensive 'saving' particularly if confiscated by HM Customs & Excise.- You have no recourse in this case...I explain this to a number of people literally every week - We cannot help if it is an illegal import!.The US seller probably doesn't even know about EU regulations so is unlikely to admit to an illegal import if it means that he will be fined - if he does know & sends anyway he is putting the risk on to the end customer.....that would be you! Fish finder

There has been a lot about fishfinders on here recently, try doing a search. I know somebody recently warned about buying from the US as they are a different spec and not built to the same standard. I know you can buy imported ones on Ebay.
  15. I Intend buying a fishfinder in a couple of months. But the long haired general would string me up if I spent any more at the moment.
