  1. Hi all, I'm looking for a Preston Space Station. Either the original or the newer XS. I can pick up locally in Wigan/Chorley/Preston areas or would be willing to pay for postage if it doesn't cost to much PM or email Thanks
  2. Hi guy and girls I am looking for a milo seatbox module. Ideally a M8 or M6 but any will be considered Thanks
  3. Was supposed to sell to a mate but he let me down so I am readvertising this. Preston Innovations Lerc Diatex XT50 13 Metre pole 3 top kits (2 Power 1 Match) £100 All sections are original and in good condition (no repairs) Weighs 870g @ 13 Metre. Pole cost £400 new. In my opinion this is a very good pole and the only reason I am selling is due to buying a 16 metre pole. Will drop off if buyer is in the Wigan area otherwise buyer would have to collect. Would consider arranging delivery further afield at buyers expense. PM or Email please
  4. If you need spares (if they are available) for MAP reels you need to go through LEEDA, thy deal with MAP products. Might be worth contacting them to find out if the spares are available but I would imagine you would need to order it through your local MAP dealer if they are.
  5. Way to jump down the guys throat there tigger! He only asked a simple question!
  6. Seen that but I was hoping for some up-to-date info from someone that may have fished it in the last week or so. No mention on that site as to when it was last updated
  7. I am planning a do up here on sunday but I've never fished it before. Does anyone have any ideas of methods/baits that will work well. I've only got a few hours spare so I'd like to make the best of it
  8. Don't Strike!! With a pole all you need to do is lift the pole and you should connect with most fish, I've never had to really strike on a pole before. If you find you are getting a lot of indications on the float but you keep missing bites, it might be that these are line bites, where feeding fish bump into the line and move your float, when this happens I start to think about altering the depth at which I am fishing, if you have your rig set to fish at dead depth then start to bring it up a bit a little at a time and eventually you should start to connect with the fish. It helps to shot the float down as much as you can so you have only a small amount of tip showing. If you got snapped from a carp it would suggest that you need to take a look at your set up to make sure its strong enough for the carp in the pool, also you need to make sure that your elastic in your pole is strong enough for the carp. When playing a decent fish on the pole you've got to let the elastic do its job, even a strong carp pole will require an elastic working correctly, just keep the line under tension and let the elastic absorb the fish's fight - its what its there for - ship the pole back gradually, keeping an eye on the fish and eventually you'll be able to break the pole at the top kits and land your fish, there is no hurry. If you find that the fish makes a lunge, you may need to add sections back onto your pole to keep in touch with the fish. I find that if you keep the pole reasonably low during the fight/unshipping to the top kits you'll be able to control things a little better, then, as the fish is ready to land lift the top kit and the fish should come up in the water and you'll be able to land it. Instead of trout pellets, go to your tackle shop and buy carp pellets, some fisheries don't actually like you using trout pellets, I think this is because they have a higher oil level than carp pellets do. One method I find works well when its warm is to fish about mid water with a banded pellet or soft expander on the hook and loose feed micro pellets over the top, its a pretty universal method and will catch most fish but if you stick with it you'll find that the bigger carp will move in eventually - just make sure you and your tackle are ready for them. If you need any further help - give me a shout!
  9. Wigan AA has matches but they are few and far between, most are matches of smaller clubs that are affiliated to wigan aa and its finding who they are
  10. Honestly that thought hadn't occurred to me, but that said, I would have to know where the clubs are having their matches in order to go to it. I can appreciate that a lot of clubs hold matches on commercials and due to that fact (and others) membership numbers are limited so everyone can fish the matches but there must be some clubs out there accepting new members
  11. I've been trying to find a fishing club in the Wigan area that runs regular matches so I can get back into fishing matches again. I've had posts on forums and I've been asking in tackle shops and nowhere seems to know of any. There seems to be a lot of clubs that are 'closed shops' and are not taking new members so what do I have to do to find a club? Does anybody else have similar problems in other areas or is it just a Wigan thing.
  12. Well the plan today is to finish work at half 12 and head off to Charity Farm at Wrightington for an afternoon to early evening session. I have to admit I was a bit miffed with the rain this morning but its stopped now so hopefully it will hold off for the day now Will get back on here tonight and let you all know how it goes. Right well the session went ok. Fished pool 1 on waggler fished corn and managed to catch a small bag of roach between 8 and 12 oz. Not as good as Charity can be but it beat sitting at home. Tried prawns as they are a noted bait but whenever I put one on the hook little perch snaffled the lot, biggest persch was about 2oz taken on a prawn half its size! Greedey Buggers The Mrs is working odd shifts for a couple of weeks now so my time will be restricted but I'm hoping to have a try at an open match at Orrell resevoirs some point in the next couple of weeks. A couple of practice sessions would be required first I think
  13. Yes your right, didn't spot that at first but have just checked, River Douglas stretch is members only!
  14. Wigan DAA Prices 2008: Adult £24 Disabled £18 OAP £9 Juniors £4 I have to be honest though, after buying the book and realising almost all the waters can be fished on a day ticket (all except the Heapy Resevoirs it seems) I don't really think its worth it, unless you specifically want to fish the waters that are members only.
  15. Depends what you want it for? If you want a pole for fishing commercials then really you don't need much more than 13 metres. I have a 16 metre pole and when fishing commercials I have never used more than 13 metres. Unless you are willing to up your budget then I wouldn't bother going for a cheap 16 metre pole, they will be heavy and sloppy and difficult to fish with, my pole cost almost double your 300 quid budget and that can be difficult at 16 metres. I would be looking at at 12.5 - 13 metre "carp" pole capable of taking up to 16 - 20 elastics for commercials, due to the popularity of commercials at the mo you will find quite a few poles on offer suited but I think Fox, Maver and Preston do some decent ones at that price. Try something like this: Maver Pole 14.5 metre The other option is to look atb a second hand pole, you may be able to get a better pole for your money. I would reccomend North West Angling Centre in Wigan, I have always had good advice from them regarding tackle, whatever my budget has been www.nwac.co.uk I would say if you can get to a tackle shop where they have the poles set up (as NWAC does) you can get a feel for them and compare different models but if your shop isn't being helpful then try the net.
  16. I'm going to a venue on Friday that has prawns as one of the noted top baits. As I've never used prawns before I was hoping fellow anglers can offer up some tips on how best to use them. Do you use them whole or break them up, do you use them fresh or are frozen prawns ok to use. Has anyone tried them mashed up as a loose feed or in a groundbait? Has anyone got any "special" tricks to give the edge over other anglers using prawns. Any ideas would be great.
  17. I use frozen as loose feed or to mix in a groundbait but I find tinned are better for the hook, I find they are a firmer grain and stay on the hook better, especially after a long cast.
  18. Hi all, Right, I'm settling down quite nicely in Wigan now after 10 years away so I'm looking for a match fishing club in the area where I can get back into Match fishing. I've only fished matches for very a small club before where on average 5-6 per match was the norm. Can anyone offer any suggestions and contact details for any organisations in the area that may be accepting new members. Ideally a club with a relaxed atmosphere that can bear with a relative new comer to match fishing. Travelling isn't a problem so any clubs in the outer areas would be ok. Thanks for your help
  19. I have the shimano hyperloop match rod and its landed carp to about 8 lb ok, if there are bigger carp in the water I use a 1.75 t.c. barbel rod fotr the pellet waggler. At the end of the day as long as your tackle is balanced and you can use it correctly you should do alright
  20. Thanks for that info, not been to charity farm for years. Will try to get a session in there soon ish. Cheers
  21. I'm having trouble getting images into posts, profiles and into my blog. Not sure if I'm doing it right cos I'm a bit of a computer biff, can anyone tell me what I need to do?
  22. A friend took me to a little fishery today and I must say I was quite pleased with it. Although the day started off slow it did pick up towards late morning at which point I was getting a fish a chuck on pole fished corn at 13metres to an island in about 18 inches of water. I managed to get quite a range of species to, roach, bream, tench, chub, golden tench, golden orfe and ghost carp. The golden orfe was actually a PB for me, I didn't weigh it but estimate it at around 2lb which is much bigger than my previous best of about 12oz. Not bad for a day out, the highlight though was not any of the fish I caught but watching my mate fall into the lake put a smile on my face lasted the whole day!
  23. Have you tried suffolk water park? I used to fish it when I lived in Ipswich, not sure about age restrictions and its not "small" but it is worth a look, also not long before I left they opened a fishery near Stowmarket called Creetingn lakes or something like that, I think its somewhere between Needham market and stowmarket. Also in stowmarket there are a couple of smaller fisheries, one is called lakeside and the other is called riverside - although don't take my word as gospel truth because its been a few years since I was down there. There is also Needham lake. There is a fishery near woodbridge as well but I'm not sure of its name. I appreciate these are not local to lowestoft but they are in suffolk if you can get to them.
