  1. Hi Alan, if you have a "Jolleyes" store in your area you will get them there, they are sold by the name groats too.Sold in one of those big bucket type things, they are sold by the kilo. As far as I know it's the pigeon fanciers who use them a lot...Des
  2. Just a short story, Myself,Jamesy and another Des were doing an overnighter in Co Cavan for Tench ( Friday/Saturday).Approx 10.30 in a clear sky Jamesy see's this strange light in the sky,no noise coming from this thing. .He points it out to the other Des,and then all of a sudden there appears a bright flash from this "UFO".They asked me if I could see it,and being very comfortable on my bedchair I glanced casually at it and said "yeah, I see it, so what". Now this thing was going slowly ,and then went extremely fast accross the sky, untill it came to a point level to us but slightly to the west of our bank( still very high in the sky).In front of us was a large stand with 3 pods on it,2 rods apiece and buzzers( you get the picture). Now this thing had stopped, and all of a sudden ALL SIX buzzers went ballistic, bleep, scream.wail,a right racket, with indicators going up and down. Now I must add, before you all call me mad,Jamesy and Des filled me in on the finer details of all this. What do reckon happened?, I think the two of them had eaten too many of the HEMP boilies I had with me,and befire any-one says it,there was not a pint of Guinness within 5 miles of us.....WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

  6. Hi OP-JB, thanks for the info on Active 8,very interesting indeed...Just to fill you in on my signature"Stop the cruel Pike slaughter in Ireland"...Well we have here (in Ireland) 4 fisheries boards,Northern,Eastern,Southern, and Western. All practice the barbaric stunt of gill netting Pike,ie:setting nets, some 100's of yards long to ensnare Pike by the gills,to such an extent that they suffer a cruel death. This is,in their words of wisdom to try and "save" the wild brown trout that inhabit the same aquatic environments that the Pike do.This is done every spring when the Pike go into the bays to spawn. This is done on lakes such as Lough Mask,Corrib,Sheelin,Garra, and many others i'm sure. Also we have the problem of poaching, where individuals lay nets to trap Pike, then they are processed illegally for their flesh and shipped to the Continent for human consumption. Also,if the last two weren't bad eneough,we have Continental visitors,German,French,Swiss, who pillage our Loughs of their Pike stocks by trolling, deadbaiting or any other method you care to think off.Any Pike they catch are filleted, and taken back home with them, are sold, and this money pays for their 2 weeks holiday the next year.I really do despair, worry for the future, and no-one will listen, well not seriously anyway. Also there are those so called "pikers" who agreed to the longlining of some of the Western Loughs, ( Mask/Corrib) to help rid the Pike from these Loughs. There is a lot more to it,but in such a forum as this, not eneough space,I do hope you have some sort of idea what we Irish Pikers are up against. Des....

  8. Hi Mally, the same thing has happened to me and a mate on a few occassions.Fishing for tench we've had loads of bubbles in the swim with not even a sign of a tench.A change to worm or maggot hookbaits and bingo, loads of small/medium sized perch. It has happened on too many occasions to be co-incidence,so that may have happened to you on your session.Maybe Steve Burke can shed some light on "the Perch theory", of them creating bubbles while feeding,or was it that the bubbles came from the silt which was disturbed by the Perch.

  10. Hi Alan, how's this?.If you want to make pop-ups from standard boilies, slice one in half with a craft knife, insert a thin flat piece of foam,( u can use the same colour to match the boilie,Gold Label do foam for this job)put together and then thread onto a boilie needle, then hair etc etc etc and bingo. It's called a "Hamburger"....... Being in a generous mood right now,I have some of the disc's of foam,if you want them I'll post 'em down to you.Just mail me if u want them....Des

  13. Hi Alan, a tooth shield for Pike would be nice,a lovely 20 I had last week took a liking for my fingers and they bled all day..Ouch! Ouch! Ouch!...By the way..good Luck in France!
  14. Hi Alan, As far as I can rememberThe Tackle Box do that mesh to protect your boilies.About £3 for loads of it. P.S. how many teeth did you have to pull to get the money for Franch...ouch!
  15. The Eustace net is expensive, but excellent stuff. Spreader block is superb, mesh and arms very light and takes a lot of abuse..worth the extra money.
