  1. Pike and Tench for me..However if I didn't have these at my disposal, it would have to be Eels. What a fish, very mysterious, not liked and persecuted by many(even some anglers),someday will put in a few sessions after them. [ 18. September 2004, 09:46 PM: Message edited by: ThePiker ]
  2. Am afraid Mr T is not the only one complaining. Have heard that people have cut short their holidays the fishing was that bad.The signs have been there for the last 5 years,Ireland has an ever decreasing stock of Coarse fish, due to numerous factors.Pike fishing is now cr@p overall, where have the Bream gone on our once prolific Loughs?.I've been to England fishing a few times, hear and read that your rivers are on the up as far as fish stocks go,and gravel pits are producing bigger and bigger fish each year. You've never had it so good.Maybe in another few years it'll be us coming over to you for the fishing and the bitter?..
  3. Hi Peter, was down that way at the week-end.Five of us fishing 2 rods each for 3 days bivvied up, and sorry to say the fishing was very poor.Fished Lough Inchin and all we managed was about 5 decent bream up to 7lb,a few hybrids and a perch.Water was very clear, but conditions were good, overcast and a nice s/w wind.We came to the conclusion that because there has been a drop in visiting anglers to Ireland, the swims were not being fed constantly, therefore the shoals of bream are more spread out making the fishing patchy. If I were you,I'd stick to one Lough and constantly feed it for the duration of your stay.May give you the best chance of a decent bag.Good luck m8.
  4. probably nothing whatsoever to do with it,but the Irish for pike is "An Lius" still,a useless bit of info for you all. [ 02. July 2004, 11:04 PM: Message edited by: ThePiker ]
  5. Yeah, they are spot on.Same material and design as the delkim hard cases...
  6. Hi all, am after a bit of advice via for my 10 year old son who wants a set of Delks just like mine( fat chance).Anyway, have agreed to get him 2 lower priced buzzers, and instead of Fox,GFM popped into my head.Have had a look at the site, not bad alarms for the money from what I've seen, but reliability in the rain is a concern(we get plenty of the wet stuff over here, believe me). I know Steve Burke uses 'em,so any feedback would be great before he ( i mean me) parts with the sheckles...Cheers all.
  7. We've had the problem of pike killers for many mnay years.Mostly German ,French anglers. Now in the last 5 years the number of fish killers had doubled, even quadrupled with the invasion of eastern europeans. Now,wether they see it as right or wrong, kiling fish is a big no no to us Coarse anglers, and if they want to reside in this country, they abide by the unwritten rules as we do.I wont fanny about the next time i come across them,it's in with the baseball bat. That'll teach 'em.... That goes to the Germans/French as well. i won't stand around and watch another very very prolific Pike Lough that was a favorite haunt of mine go down the swanney because of these people. And sod the consequences..
  8. Tackle?, dunno, but baitwise it has to be hemp pellets.Absolute and utter cr@p.
  9. Crushed Weetabix, good for keeping maggots in and taking away the ammonia smell they can get when they sweat!
  10. What does he want the eels for?.If I were you,I'd just not bother, and leave the eels alone, let 'em live I say!
  11. Roach/Bream Hybrid? Unless it's 2 pics joined together [ 19. February 2004, 07:58 PM: Message edited by: ThePiker ]

  14. It's Gold Label Tackle Crocodile wire for me,much like the old Berkley steel Strand, which was the bizz as far as deadbait traces goes.
  15. 3 x North Western Specialist's,all 12ft 1.5lb t.c. Charcoal grey blank,3 legged rings, with dark blue whippings, hooded reel seat. All immaculate condition. One rod just slightly different from other two(butt grip slightly fatter, whipping's slightly darker, than other two). All through action,a real players rod..Rods will be sent fully protected in rod tube... Looking around £60 per rod,but no reasonable offer refused.I'm not too hard to bargain with. P.M's please.. Postage extra, but again may part pay.
  16. Anyone know the best way to remove some epoxy resin coating which is used over the whipping on a rod.I've some above a reel seat I wish to remove..Cheers
  17. Argyll, I'm not one for saying you should have this, instead of that etc etc, but have a look at the Free Spirit Boat Pike Tamer.10ft in length, rated at 2.5lb t.c. which is just about right I think.A nice rod to play fish on,and has a bit of ooomph when it matters.A very nice thing to fish with.I use 'em for all my boat fishing, whetehr river or lough.Had my new p.b. of 31.10 on one last September, so really cant rate them highly eneough..
