  1. I've always caught using ragworn, which you can buy, athough the quality isn't always guaranteed, or dig you own (can be hard going, but I find Greenock esplanade good) Fresh peeler can be a great bait, but if you're fishing further up river, you might only catch eels and flatties. Haven't fished the Clyde this year so far, hoping to get a session soon. Good luck!
  2. You bet mate! Coming down 25th July, got a van booked at the Clash again. !
  3. Good to see you back in action mate, I'm envious (as always). Looking forward to my "holiday" this July, a whole weeks' fishing at my favourite place in the world. Cannae wait! Col
  4. haven't seen a Launce caught for a wee while, good to see they're back. Was down West Tarbert sunday 6th , had a few small Pollack / Coalies and once nice 4lb+ Pollack. - 3rd cast! got a picture, but it doesn't do it justice. hope to get down in a few weeks time again.
  5. Good stuff mate, hope you enjoy OZ, we'll all be waiting here for your "down under" reports! - show Rex how to do it!!! Looks like I'm finished for the year too, unless I can squeeze in some Northeast codding in December. Hope to see you and the Mrs soon. Col
  6. Another fine catch snatcher! I'm sitiing here at my desk in work, pinning away, while you get in amongst the fish. if I didn't have a night out planned for Saturday, I'd be down this weekend!! hope to see you soon mate.
  7. 1 Day is never enough time down there! Next time, if you can, get onto the rocks at west tarbert, you might get the chance of a nice pollack or a decent wrasse. I've heard (but not tried) if you free-line ragworm or small hardback crabs, the sport can be dynamite! I've had a couple of really big (for me anyway) pollack on float fished Mackerel strip down there - biggest was 8lbs!! had a few to 4lbs too - will need to scan in the photo's.
  8. I really hope the weather holds for you, it can be a treacherous place when it's wet and windy down there! Looking forward to hearing how you get on.
  9. "Mull of Galloway blues" I know the feeling! I'm counting down the days 'till I get back down. Not sure whether to bring the Mrs with me this time, as I'm always worried she'll take a dive off the rocks, and I like the look of the that 'Logan mark. I might even try for a 1 day stint this weekend, if the weather looks favourable.
  10. Great stuff! I can't wait to get back down. I was meant to go fishing yesterday at Greenock, but my brother pulled out, leaving me in the myre! went for a round of golf instead! - some Angler me, eh?
  11. I'll hopefully get down again around the 24th of August for a day, maybe two.. - seems way too long to wait!
  12. Hello Rob, hope the lack of replies hasn't downheartened you! lol I've actually never fished Ayr from the Shore, used to go out on the boat a good few years ago though - never seemed to catch that much. I'm not the best one to give advice, but it'll tell you what I use, and then maybe others will add their bit. I used to fish Largs (black rocks) up to Port Glasgow (with varying results). A 12ft Beachcaster, large fixed spool reel (or Mulitplier) 15-18lb line, 50lb shock leader (general rule 10lb per 1oz of lead weight) A simple rig with single 2/0 or 3/0 aberdeen hooks, 18in hook length (12-15lb on sandy bottom or 18lb + over rough ground) If you can get peeler crab, then you should get better results, although Lugworn, Ragworm and mackerel baits all work well depending on what you're fishing for. for example, fishing Crab, might get you a Cod, whereas rag / lug might get you a flounder. I'm only going on my own experience here, so other Anglers will probably have other advice. I've learned by trial and error (lots of errors! lol), and I usually always stop for a chat with other Anglers, just incase I pick up that one piece of Killer info. Buy a Sea Angling mag, they can be really helpful, or have a chat with your local tackle dealer - most will not try to rip you off if they know you'll come back. All the best, and make sure you let me know if you catch anything. Cheers! Col
  13. Sound advice from Bobj! LOL. Pity the Bass didn't show John, but at least you didn't draw a blank (like I would've).
  14. Hi Sportsman! I feel your pain. Unfortunately, animals like those "so called" Anglers, are going to let down the genuine people who enjoy fishing, I've seen similar scenes before at rock marks at the Mull of Galloway where I do most my fishing. It's annoying that some people have no idea how to clear up after them, I regularly go on a mini clear up if I find a mark in a bad way, but I shouldn't need to, surely common sense (if they have any) would prevail? With regards to overkill, I've also seen this, and to say i was shocked was an understatment!! Have they no idea about conservation? there may be thousands of mackerel in a big shoal, but this kind of lunacy will only lead to a decline in quantities, and ultimately, the death of the sport (not as far fetched as some may think). There doesn't really seem to be an answer, as I doubt the idiots responsible could be educated now. I only take a few for bait, and release all the rest to fight another day
  15. Hello mate! I'm still gutted that I missed out on that boat trip! would have been the icing on my holiday cake! How did the Guy who took Ill on Saturday morning get on? The Ambulance Whizzed past us at Stranraer. I can't wait to get back down in August - maybe I'll get in amonst the Pollack this time? I'll do a mini report once I get my feet under the table at work! Could you tell Chris I said Hullo? speak soon.
