  1. Hello all Has anone used a method mould? I've seen them in my local tackle shop but never got round to buying one. Are they as good as Preston and Garbollino make out? I'm thinking about using one in a couple of matches this year and just wanted to know what you lot thought about them?? Cheers for reading Jonny P
  2. [ Well then...I fished the match today and finished 3rd overall with a record breaking 4 lbs exactly....It was very hard and everyone on there struggled to catch much. Too much rain and gale force winds. Even the chairman of middlewich angling (whose water it is) struggled, getting just 14 oz....... 6 lb 2 oz won it but i'm happy as i've now fished 4 matches and finished in the money in 2
  3. The trouble is that the match is tomorrow (saturday) and i've no time to go down and fish it. I went before work today and nobody was there. I did speak to a couple of lads in my local tackle shop who gave me some good advice so i'll try what they said as they fish it.
  4. It's a place called "sparrow grove"in cheshire which is on the Middlewich ticket. Small water, 30ish pegs, holds carp to 20+ apparently, Big tench and bream and lots of silvers and crucians etc....
  5. Hello all I am fishing in a match from work on a local water which i haven't fished before and would like some advice. What should be my starting tactics? Which bait should i use? How heavy should my line be with it being a bit cold???? I do know a bit but would just like to hear other peoples ideas!!!! Thanks Jonny P
  6. Cheers Rusty They were mainly small carp and a couple of chub and tench. 5 hour match, so it wasn't a great weight but i was just well chuffed. 75lb was the biggest individual weight. Jp
  7. Hello All Yesterday i fished in what was only my 2nd match, Teams of 4 on Heronbrook. Going into the match nervous, i was very happy to finish 5th overall, And my team finished 3rd. My weight was 45 lb 12oz which didn't win my section, but with sponsored match anglers all around me i was anxious not to let my team mates down. My weight was our teams highest. I just thought i'd let people know. Cheers Jonny P
  8. Hello all Next friday i am fishing in my 2nd match, Teams of 4 on heronbrook. I am getting a bit nervous as i dont want to let down the other lads. Has anyone got any tips on how to go about match fishing, I'm not new to fishing but would just like some pointers on the match scene. Cheers Jonny Parr
  9. I was fishing my pole. Set up was 2lb hooklink size 20 hook fished dead bottom. Right up against some weed on the bottom.
  10. Alright all Whilst out fishing a local water yesterday i had a very good day catching lots of Tench , Roach and a few Chub. Towards the end of my session i caught 2 large Bream but both were foul hooked. I was fishing dead bottom and was wondering why both of them were foul hooked????? Tight lines to all. Jp
  11. Alright Ajax? I would recomend what Vagabond said about fishing the margins. On my local club water, the majority of bigger carp (10lb+) come from right under the platforms or along the margins, very close in. I have just joined a new club and will be trying the margins in all their lakes before i ship out 16m of pole. Make sure your tackle is up to the job though mate as you will want to " hit and hold" big carp in the margins. Good luck and tight lines Jp
  12. "I wonder how many "pressed out " licences will get damaged in the process.?" Mine ripped in 1/2 when i tried to push it out. I'll Laminate it when i go back to work.........But i'm off for another 3 weeks..WOOOOOHOOOOOOOO. New society waters here i come.... Jp
  13. Last summer i was fishing a day ticket water in Cheshire (i'm not naming as it is a very good venue). I was one of only 4 people fishing the match lake and was having a very productive day catching a lot of Tench and Carp. 2 young lads (probably 12 or 13) had been there all day and had behaved very well, Until one of the caught a reasonable size carp (7 or 8 Lbs). The lad landed it and i heard a bit of shouting from them and just assumed they were happy to catch a decent size fish. To my horror they were "Happy slapping" the Carp, 1 idiot filming it whilst the other Slapped it. I quickly shipped my pole back in and raced over, Upon seeing me run over (6' 1" and 20 stone) the lads looked worried and stopped filming, And slapping the fish. I didn't touch either of them but told them to leave which they did. If they had refused to leave i'm not sure what i would have done, But i would have got into trouble. I think that every time we fish a day ticket water , Whoever takes your money should also ask to see your Rod Licence, As most idiots probably don't have one so therefore wouldn't be allowed to fish. It only takes a few idiots to ruin our wonderful pastime. Jp
  14. Alright Fisherking? I have got the Maver pro seatbox myself, and although it is a good box with plenty of room, i would say that the foam padding on the seat is a little inadequate (for my 6' 1" and 20 stone anyway). I got my box when they first came out so they may have improved the padding?? I don't know. Just thought i'd let you have my views on it. The one on the above link from Trev's looks like a winner though. Jp

    Scales

I agree mate I got some Berkley digital scales from E-bay for £7 a few years back and they are spot on. They weigh exactly the same as my brothers Fox digital ones as we have tried weighing different things in his garage (they have weighed a few fish too) Each to their own though, Some people prefer Avons some prefer Digitals!!!! Jp
  16. Hello all Whilst fishing a local pool today I lost what would have easily been my new personal best carp. I had a sleeper rod out with a piece of Pepperoni hair rigged on a size 10, But i didn't lose it on that, oh no. I was fishing my pole up against a bush which was overhanging the water. Size 6 elastic size, 3lb line, size 20 hook, single caster. I was enjoying pulling out lots of Roach, a few Skimmers, the odd Perch and a couple of Dace. Upon hooking said carp i played it for about 20 mins before "PING" elastic, float, line and hook come towards me at speed, minus carp. I had nearly landed it after about 10 mins but was too careful after thinking it wouldn't go in my landing net!!! ( a M.A.P. carp mugger, Which is quite big). I estimate the fish to be 20lb+ easily, and my Personal best at the moment is 13lb 1oz. To say i'm gutted is an understatement. Fishing, DONT YOU JUST LOVE IT???????????? A very dejected Jonny Parr.
  17. There is about 125mm (5inches) missing.
  18. Hello all After my recent "broken baitrunner" post, i now have a broken carp rod. It's a Quantum hypercast, Never used, One which i won in a competition in Anglers Mail. It's been in my shed and has had the end snapped off and 2 of the lower guides have had the ceramic insert smashed. Does anyone Know of a Rod builder / Repairer? in Cheshire. My local tackle shop gave me a number, But i can't get in touch with the bloke (probably bankside). Any help greatly apreciated. Cheers Jp
  19. Hello all I bought a Shimano 6000re baitrunner 2 years ago, The limited edition with a double handle. I got snagged up on a local water a week back and the handle snapped. Not very good for a Shimano, but i no longer have a reciept so i assume it is not covered by the manufacturers warranty. Does anyone know where i can get a spare handle or know who to contact. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Jonny Parr
  20. I got some small bolt cutters from Aldi of all places. Thet are small enough to go into my lure box and are of a good quality.
  21. Cheers boys, I never thought of only putting 100 yds of braid to mono. If i did this what knot should i use as i've never tied one? Andy said "If you have a spare spool for your reel, simply wind on 100 yards of braid and attach some 15lb mono using a Uni to Uni knot. Now fill your spool upto the brim" Without sounding like a Div, What is a uni to uni knot? Yeah Vagabong my pliers have a very substantial cutter on the, So i have bolt cutters in effect! Jp
  22. Hi I have only been spinning for pike about 3 times and therefore i don't have all the gear and just use whatever i think is suitable. I have been using a 9ft carp rod and a shimano Baitrunner with 12lb sensor, And this is where my question starts. I have been told and have read that i should be using braid as it is far better for spinning / Lure fishing. Do i need to fully load my spool with braid? As this will be quite expensive won't it? And what braid should i buy?? I would appreciate any insight into this topic as i'm a comparative newbie to spinning (although i do have 18" wire traces ,long forceps, Pliers and a box full of spinners, plugs, spoons and the rest which i stole from my brother)......Cheers in advance Jp
